I am well aware of this, but if it brings her some comfort, it is still worth taking the time to contact them
She is worried about her child ,and she is paying for their education. They do have an obligation to let her know that things are being taken care of properly..My daughter is a police woman for a big 10 uni ,and this is all part of public relations

l would contact the university and the police. If they don't reassure you things are being handled, then move up to the FBI.
Always go with your gut...

In my opinion, “ being aware of the situation” is simply not enough. What does that even mean as far as actions taken is concerned?
I would never trust the life of my loved ones based on such a statement.

If you take the reporting route, keep in mind your source is your son.
If this student is harboring a vendetta, and his family is well connected, a name will be available.
If the university and the police are aware, then I still feel there really is nothing you can say that will make a difference.
I know you are concerned but running to the press, the FBI, members of Congress is really going off the rails here.
See something, say something. I get it.
Something was seen, and something was said.
Perhaps a good long talk with your son would be the best guidance for you.

Many are saying ‘something’ should be done & there should be ‘action’.
What exact something/action should be taken?

I was wondering the same thing. Someone from this study group must have put the word out to someone and it got back to him. They need to be reminded not to say anything on social media about their study groups and whereabouts.
When my daughter was at the university it was my experience that once a child turns 18 they expect the student to handle everything. They don't communicate well with parents. You might try asking if the campus poice are watching him and if they have interviewed him. That's all you can do.

Look at what just happened at that Colorado STEM school. A parent anonymously reported a pressure cooker situation at that school due to many factors, and expressed the fear of a Columbine situation. Turned out tragically to be right.
This school actually tried to get a judge to give them the identity of this parent while attempting to sue them for defamation of character! These shootings are full of stories of people and schools who knew of potential trouble and tried to cover it up. So I wouldn't even bother dealing with the school. They cover up things like sexual assaults too, because they're more concerned about things like school image and money.

When people get frightened they sometimes also panic, and just want to contact everyone they can. It is understandable. Sometimes all they need to hear is ,that the proper authority is aware, and have taken steps to insure the safety of everyone on campus.
No university wants a shooting on campus and they take the necessary steps to protect others. More police from other departments might be called in. They are armed and trained for these types of situations..They can't just arrest someone ,without proof they are dangerous, and mean to harm people

Many of us have suggested some very specific actions.
Would be great to hear any of those you might like to make.
