Princess Anne on Staten Island

[ Edited ]

Princess Anne paid a low key and quiet visit to NYC, primarily Staten Island, yesterday.  It was almost 65 years ago that her parents visited the borough.

She rode the Staten Island Ferry, visited the National Lighthouse Museum and gave a luncheon speech at a Battery Park event.   She was visiting NYC for a charitable fundraiser.

She was made an Honorary Museum Chair and spent time examining the Museum's British Lighthouse exhibit.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip aboard a ferry boat,  taking them from Staten Island to Manhattan on October 21, 1957.

What great photos, @Johnnyeager -- especially "past" and "present" juxtaposed like that.

Princess Anne is a real stalwart-- a sterling asset to the British nation and the causes for which she works.

Wow - this really was a low key visit.  I didn't see anything about Princess Anne on our local New York City news.

Nice pictures - thanks for sharing.

You are right @Oznell  she is known as the most loyal and hardworking royal. The life they live is not an easy one. It appears to be isolated and disciplined. I would not want to do it.

Apparently,  very few people outside of those directly involved were aware of the visit until the NYC Department of Transportation tweeted the picture of her on the ferry.  She is next to the City's DOT Commissioner

The Princess has had a long time interest in light houses and supports preservation of them internationally.   The Museum on Staten Island is on the site of a lighthouse which functioned from 1864 to 1939.

An FDNY water boat put on a water display alongside the Princess's ferry boat ride.

Princess Anne has quietly without fanfare dedicated her life to many worthy causes, especially Save the Children.  I respect and admire those who put in time and effort to make this world better, to help others and animals, these are my heroes.  Princess Anne's visit to NY, welcome and honored.
