Speaking of the Henry Gates show, which I love, what surprised me is that you can find similar traits in generations of ancestors.

For example, most of us know education is a passion for Oprah Winfrey.  What even she didn't know is that she comes from ancestors who were also educators.  One of her direct ancestors started a school to educate children to read and write as soon as he was a free man.

Several others, male, have had a long history of military men in their family which had not been known by most of them.

Charles will be King, when the Queen passes away....she will never resign.

Charles has worked his entire life to be King, he deserves it IMHO...and his son, William will be King as well. Camilla, I do not believe will be given the title of Queen. I'm almost certain that was part of the deal when he was given permission to marry her. But who know what will happen after his mom passes.

Whatever her geneology, I believe it's true that Kate's family were not of the aristocracy... They held no titles and hence weren't 'peers of the realm' but would be considered 'commoners'...

As for William's future as king, I don't think any of us can know. All we see is that he's likable, has what appears to be a happy marriage and a nice young family. What we see in sound bites and photo ops doesn't really tell us anything about his abilities to be a sitting monarch. That said, while the demands on a king or queen are significant, they aren't what they were many years ago when the monarch truly led the empire.

Re: Prince Charles?

[ Edited ]

From what I have seen of both William and Harry, I think Harry would make a better king for the people.

I am not swayed by William's marriage, kids and photo ops.

I don't have much of an opinion on Charles...he reminds me of the color tan.

As for Camilla 😵...well, there's that saying about not being able to say anything nice...

That's interesting!  I like Harry but am not sure what someone would have against William.

The Royals are human beings.  The difference is very few, if any, have ever had to worry about paying bills.

I'm not sure why William has been elevated to an almost god-like status.  Just as his father, he has a pretty & popular wife and darling children.  Many remember the handsome, young man that greeted the crowds and walked behind his mother's casket. Poignant yes, but does that mean he'll be a good king? In this day and age, what makes a good king?

Charles deserves to be king.  It is his birthright and he's prepared for it his entire life.

I know morality has very little to do with one's understanding of why William is a better choice over his father--but if I were a taxpayer living in England--my vote would be for Wm.

What would not make William a good King?  He's a good role model and I liked that he became a rescue pilot for ambulance air, which means he's willing to risk himself for others.  He's also well educated.

So what's the problem?  He and Harry learned wonderful compassion and care for others from their mother.

Harry is probably over the moon, he is off the hook
