That was the scuttlebutt I heard from friends who are members, since I wasn't at the time. I'm not in the market for anything big or expensive right now, no electronics, etc. so doubt I'll be majorly tempted, but will give it a look here and there. Never say never.

As far as buying counterfeits from Amazon, I have always lived by the adage "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I'm also pretty good at spotting fake reviews. I wouldn't expect a genuine designer bag to be half price - and I wonder who would.  Depending upon the item and the price of the item, I might not notice or care that it's "almost" (but not quite) the same as the original (kitchen plastics, the bedsheet thing) or feel guilty about my choice.

Everyone knows that China is the Land of Knock-Offs. I wouldn't touch Alibaba with a 10-foot pole, not least for malware potential.

Amazon is no one's friend but Jeff Bezos'. He's done a Google in that it's no longer all about the customer, and trust. We have to watch out for ourselves, and make our own choices. But it'd be pretty difficult to do without it entirely, at least for me. I just pick and choose carefully.
