I truly believe that more and more chemotherapy is going to be tailored to one's own genetic makeup as the researchers figure out which key goes into which lock.

There are so many various options of chemotherapy options and just the right cocktail for different cancers, stages, etc..just as you mentioned @JustJazzmom
There's a "new" drug I've read about in recent months for lung Cancer that's supposed to be a real breakthrough.
LOL Jazzy, we both have Scientists in the family. We get to find out about all kinds of interesting stuff.

I definitely recommend the book, "Emperor of all Maladies", by Siddhartha Mukherjee. It really gives a lot of information of what, when and where Cancer was "discovered" in all it's forms. The brutal treatments that Doctors believed would work...just the chapter on Children's Cancer is sad enough. If you don't want to read about it, look at the three part series.
I'm sure with the good news about Mr. Carter, someone else out there will learn something and tell their doctors about the new treatments.

And it goes without saying-- go for routine cancer screenings-- mammograms, colonoscopies, skin exams.
If there is a history of cancer in your family, go sooner than the recommended see a doctor at age so and so.

He seems like a gracious and humble man.

Problem is that the new cancer drugs are so expensive the average person can't afford them. Can't imagine the prices I've heard quoted.

You don't have to know a scientist to know more than the average person on certain types of cancers and it's treatments.
I am sure that Mr. Carter will give a large sum of money for cancer research and even to aid cancer patients financially.
It's been done by the common man for decades.
