Hello Lovelies,
Hey @Yahooey! Of course, We is still eating too rich food. But all the Japanese food is cooked for us. We is gonna stay around the house cause Toot hasn’t gotten her vaccine yet-
appointment with her doc - will get in a couple days. We is scared to take out to crowds. Rate up here in CT.
Yessiree, Thanksgiving was super special. DIL’s father doing very poorly. Major heart issues along with major lung issues.
Can’t operate on heart because of lungs. I say at my age, DH age, we are in God’s waiting room. Well, this man truly is, and he is very very depressed. We lubs this man. The food, the fuss, was a distraction for him.
And then the day after TG, DH gets an email from very good friend. Another very good friend of his has been having severe back issues. Well,he is now in hospice at hospital with a tumor that has harmed his spine, along with blood cancer.
And his dear wife has endured years of severe health problems herself.
None of my bizness, but I want to know- wuz he seeing his family doc? Who is this family doc - mine is Mr. Test? I am sure he has good insurance-scans, etc, routinely done by docs to rule out stuff. FIL’s doc same. Are, we getting the right story? Duz this guy do blood work? Like cholesterol?
FIL has all arteries to heart clogged. Can’t operate, even after his heart attack.
Sorry to depress everyone. My and DH doc can be a pain in the tucas - but he is competent and very methodical. He lubs his tests, and we lubs him.
I deeply apologize. Have the best doc for your family doc.
Listen to doc. Do what doc says. Sorry for my rant, but please everyone, take it to heart.

with all these cancers - how do u get tested for all of them?
both my parents had heart stuff - they were checked
dad had stents put in on several diff occasions-
i got my heart checked out maybe 5 years ago
an annual physical - i get lots of blood results - most of which i dont pay attn to
i look for my cholesterol ratio - A1C - vit D - all the red and green checkmarks
i rely on my doc to flag me for something that i should be aware of
ur cholesterol would be the first sign to heart disease- right?
idk how u would check lungs -
my SIL mom discover she had bladder cancer along with my mom at the same time which was last NOV - while my mom C breached the bladder wall - hers has not
but she has been through other treatsment - C kept coming back and she started on chemo several weeks ago - even before chemo - she told my SIL that she is ready to go like my mom (most of her friends are gone) - sometimes u wonder if it is better to forgo the treatments when u are of a certain age - chemo was NEVER an option for my mom - we said no to that and the oncologist agreed bc of her age
SIL mom is late 80s - was healthy until last nov
my mom 92 was healthy before nov also - walked w/o cane -
prayers to the FIL and ur DH friend

Hiya @Yahooey,
You are very thoughtful and informed, as we get when we are dealing with all our dear ones as they age.
Breathing capacity can be checked with a simple breathing test in a doctor’s office. If a problem, referral to a pulmonologist. Scans- MRIs - will pick up problems, gotten much more common over the years. They start by eliminating the worst case scenario and work their way down from there.
DD’s FIL was always very slender and fit for mid 70s. He says a few days before COVID hit, he was out shoveling snow for a couple hours. He wasn’t feeling well, went to doc, and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. In his case, his lungs were severely damaged. Wham. Getting worse. Sees docs at Yale now. But are trying drugs to limit progression.
I understand and agree with eliminating chemo when people are up in years. Like your dear mom. I believe in Hospice, keep comfortable, but no aggressive treatments if that is the desire. I am sure you are missing your mom even more during this season. Lubs to you!

Good Morning Preds and Friends!

We put up the Christmas Tree yesterday. I have stuff all over the place. It's quite the mess. I have cooked, cleaned, and decorated - and i'm over it all. LOL
I love looking at the lights on the tree. I need to finish up today and clean it all up and relax. But then there's the laundry that I haven't done all week. *sigh*

I'm sorry about all these dear friends and family members with health issues. I've been so frustrated dealing with my dad and everything that's been going on with him.
He calls his appointments "meetings." He goes to socialize rather than discuss his medical issues. I have to ask all the questions and get all the information while he sits there and chit chats with the doctor about where they went to school, where they grew up, sports - anything and everything. That is just his nature. He's very social. Me, i'm anti-social. I want to get in and out, get the facts, and leave.
He's desperate for some sort of treatment, but everything is so risky. The oncologist mentioned surgery. Yes, he'll do it. Cardiologist said too risky. Heart procedure to get him off blood thinner so there's less of a chance of bleeding from tumor. Yes, he'll do it. Specialist said it's too risky. Oncologist said oral chemotherapy. He wants to do it. He has no idea what the side effects are from that. At this point, I think he's better off just monitoring it. It hasn't spread. It's a non-aggressive cancer and very slow growing. I forgot to mention his lungs are filling with fluid. He has to see the pulmonologist to get his left lung drained. He's done that 4 times since May.
My sister is no help making any kind of decisions. She is going to pray the cancer away.
Sorry for the rant. ![]()

I cooked for Thanksgiving.
We had bone-in turkey breast. I ordered it from Whole Foods. It was delicious. I've always made a frozen Butterball turkey. I'd rather just make the breast. No one eats the dark meat anyway, so there was a lot of waste.
We had mashed potatoes, sweet potato chunks with brown sugar and pineapple, stuffing, balsamic glazed brussel sprouts, Honeybaked ham, and cranberry sauce. I do as much as I can ahead of time. Thanksgiving day is basically making the turkey, the gravey and heating everything up.

I've always wanted to try a deep fried turkey. I'm way too scared.
