I only brought one “surprise pet” home in 55 years of marriage.  Our corgi Willy had passed, and we were in deep sorrow.  But I saw a picture of Snowball, an old thin cat with no teeth, who had been abandoned outside in the winter.

DH said, oh too soon,  but I went to the shelter and brought Snowball home.

DH came home, saw the kitty stuff and said, “Well, I see you did it.”  And when he saw Snowball, his face just lit up. She was my baby.
