OK, @Yahooey, I don’t usually have a funny nature story on hand, but here we go.
Several weeks ago, at my strong suggestion, we bought a gorgeous birdhouse for the backyard. Big, round and white, with 6 birdie apartments, a copper roof. DH mounted on a big white post. I just stare at it in wonderment. How I managed to talk DH into it.
Fast forward. The other morning, a very small and lesser birdhouse was ripped off its post, metal post bent almost in half, house ripped apart. Only one suspect. Beau Bear. No signs for so many weeks. Somebody in the neighborhood must have trash out and feeding birdies! But...my glorious birdhouse in danger!!!
So, DH is appointed with task of protecting said $$$ birdhouse. Some ammonia in water around it. But...wait for it...he bought some wolf urine at a garden center. has special tiny containers to put in ground. Seems bears are afraid of wolves, so the pee pee says stay away.
I suggested to DH that he should sleep near said birdhouse to protect it. Armed with a broom and honey. Carrot and a stick. He declined. People in CT might get annoyed with bears, but never, ever want them killed. We might complain and belch, but don’t touch our trees or wildlife. Hunting is a no-no where we live. Culture in different areas is interesting.
I hope that pee pee works. I have waited so long for such a beautiful birdhouse - and some tiny birdies already moving in.
Aren’t you sorry you asked?

why copper - I know copper is fancy - but is there a more specific reason - like birdie poo does not kill the birdhouse?

@Yahooey, More like the top picture. Actually made by the Amish. They do amazing work. We bought ours at a big plant place. They also sell on Amazon. The copper roofs are likely more for effect. I think you might have to go to a specialty store for the wolfie product.
