Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

My neighbors and I got a notice from the local police department in our mail today that a man moved into our area who has been convicted of se##ual assault three times.

He's on lifetime probation for not one, but 3 assaults, one included kidnapping and one included battery.   He violated two of his probations after serving 7 years on the previous convictions.

He now lives within a mile of us!

I do a lot of walking and have lived in my neighborhood for many years. This is the first time we ever got such a notice.   Yes, you have to be aware all the time, but a known threat is unnerving.

The notice said his convictions have been for assaulting adult women.  I can't believe they keep letting this guy out!   I can see if he served his time once and is on lifetime probation, but he violated his probation and commited more acts!    It's insane.    He's obviously not very good at rehabilitation.

We live in a nice area, it has always been safe.   We live right near a grocery chain and it makes you wonder too, he is shopping where we shop, walking and driving where we walk and drive.  I am now so suspicious of strange men when I am out walking.   They did provide a picture, but it's probably old since he was in prison for the last offense some 3 years ago.

My entryway is hidden from the front of the street and I have a large yard.  It makes me nervous now to even leave my security door open for fresh air.

I am a renter, so my voice is never heard where I live.  I e-mailed one of the HOA members who is nice and asked if he could get the police to come to our complex and do an inservice for women about being vigilant and safe.   There are a lot of young and older women living around here.

I feel sorry for the people who he moved right next to!

Has anyone else had this happen?

You know, there are probably many predators living all around you that just have not been caught.....I would worry more about them than this guy who is on parole or whatever.  You should always play it safe and not leave doors open anyway. I live in a nice neighborhood As well, but still carry mace with me on my walks.

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

We had an offender move 2 streets up and a local officer posted his picture everywhere in the neighborhood. There are different designations, in my state the predator is the worst one. I would be unnerved by the man in your neighborhood too. I guess, be very careful. If he violated his probation once, he probably will again. You can hope for that. I have 3 dogs who bark at anything that comes down the street. You never know who is in your neighborhood anyway, at least you know what this guy looks like and where he lives.

I thought they only mailed out flyers for child predators. Be proactive. Get pepper spay etc when walking, lock your doors, get a security camera, security light, or even get armed. I wouldn't live in fear. They are watching him, not the ones who haven't been caught.

If you go to your local sheriff's website you would be shocked that so many actually live around you. Even "nice areas". Best advice is to remain aware. On your walks have your cell phone handy, pepper spray is a good option also. Walk with others.

Frosted~just wow! I can totally understand how you feel. This is awful, it is insane that this creep is allowed on the streets. We had a registered s$$ offender near our local school for years. There was nothing we could do either, but our neighbor worked in law enforcement and went to his house every Halloween to make sure he didn't answer the door. Our kids never could walk to school or ride their bikes alone. I guess all you can do is be vigilant like you are . I wonder if getting a petition signed by neighbors or bringing attention to this on your local news would do any good?

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

He probably was informed that everyone would be notified and hopefully that will be enough of a deterrent to stop him from committing another offense.  In the city I live, the PD setup a website so we can see who the offenders are, their addresses, etc will come up on a map.  A little scary as there were more than a few interspersed within a 3 mi radius from me but I refuse to let it keep me from the routine of my life plus I have "skills" to protect myself as most women do nowadays.

@Frosted Cake  I am so sorry and totally understand what you are saying.....3 times?  Doesn't make sense, does it?

I like your idea about asking the police to educate everyone on keeping safe.

Recently I was on the internet trying to find the zip code of a friend.  As you all know up pops something that tells me the names addresses, how much they paid for their houses, and on and one.

It also said there are 7 (yes 7) predators that live within a few miles of her.

It is crazy these days.  I don't know but I guess it's only getting worse because obviously with 3 convictions, nothing happens to him.

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

@Frosted Cake  Nobody, nice neighborhood or not, wants someone convicted of sex crimes living next door.  What would you suggest they do with him, he has to live somewhere?  They can keep him in jail only as long as your state's laws prescribe.

There is a free website you can download (I seem to have lost it) that shows the residence of all sex offenders and the location of criminal activity in your city.  You'd be amazed at what goes on.

Hi Annabellethecat!

It is crazy all what goes on these days.   I'm always careful, but when you know someone like that lives in your area, it just makes it more worrisome.   I don't have a dog and live alone.   I rent, so I can't just put up cameras, etc., without the owner allowing it.

I just wonder on the two times previous where he violated his probation, did they inform neighbors of his actions?   If they did, it didn't stop him from doing it again.   We have a park right across the street, a wash area where joggers jog and walkers walk daily, it's just such an uncomfortable feeling.   I'm just glad I know where he lives.  I would hate it if were just "an area" they told you about.

I can't really believe that he is harmless now.   Once someone continuously commits such horrific acts, it's in their blood.

I am beginning to believe that there aren't any "nice" neighborhoods anywhere anymore.
