Update: Blake still needs our prayers. He has been on mega doses of antibiotics for nine days and the infection is still not resolved. He had another MRI this evening which will be read on Monday morning and will hopefully pinpoint the location and size of the infection. Fortunately, his pain threshold no longer requires morphine and his temperature is normal. He is in good spirits and his appetite is good. He cannot be discharged until the infection is completely resolved. When he comes home it will be with an IV port and his mother will have to administer antibiotics for at least three weeks post hospitalization. He will then have regular weekly follow-up visits with his specialty doctors for a period of time.

Gloriajean: ... Pyomyositis is a bacterial infection deep within the muscle (in Blake's case in the muscle of the groin area) and is a rare condition. One of his doctors told me on Friday they see this only 2 or 3 times a year; this in a very large medical center in PA.

I have great news!!! Blake was discharged from the hospital last night. He still has to have antibiotics daily, via PICC line, for at least three weeks. The MRI done Sunday night along with blood cultures were clear of infection. He is also pain free. Thank you God. I also want to thank everyone here for their concern, thoughts and prayers. This has been a roller coaster ride for Blake and his/our family since early October.

I told Blake he has some decisions to make in his future. Perhaps instead of sports (football, wrestling, baseball, etc.) maybe he'd like to take up violin. He just smiled and said "maybe." He's an awesome 14 year old kid who has been through h*ll and back!!!

Thanks for telling me where to find this thread, gloriajean.

I want to request prayers for a poster named Deb (her nickname is debfla53) who has been under treatment for what appears to be advanced, aggressive cancer. Many of us were following her updates on a couple of threads in Viewpoints, but we haven't heard from her since September 5.

I'd also like to send prayers of thanks for Peachysue and her husband. They've been a substantial source of information and strength during the time Deb has been posting, and it was clear they offered a gift of hope and peace to her. I'm praying for all of you on this thread, too. I believe fervently in the power of prayer.

May God bless you and keep you.
