Powerboat Racing Memories (80s): Bill Sirois

[ Edited ]

Florida Powerboat Racing: circa 70s-80s

For those in/connected w/ the sport...or any Floridians,

does Bill Sirois ring any bells?

His 2 boys work for my sports radio station (1310am) and they

recently did a touching tribute to their dad who died 20yrs ago.

Bill Sirois won many championships & was highly revered

within the powerboat racing world.  Just wanted to know

if you had any stories, knew of him or watched him race back

in his heyday.

Re: Powerboat Racing Memories (80s): Bill Sirois

I have not heard of him but many years ago (late50-early60s) I used to go to Canadaqua  Lake (spelling??) NY and watch Mr Campbell practice and race.   At some point the race was moved away from NYS and I never got to see them again except on TV.  Now his records have been broken many times.  He held land and water records.  He died trying to set a new water record.   A believe a TV program mentioned years later that all records had been reviewed with modern technology and they determined a duck probably caused his crash.  Very possible as we know they cause hugh problems for air planes.

At 72 I now enjoy sprint car races.  There are many here and in PA.  Fun easy weekends.
