Charlotte NC got about 3 inches. Schools were dismissed at 12:30 yesterday and snow started falling at around dinner time. Schools are out today. Temp is 28 degrees so not much melting.

On a positive note...in a few short days pitchers and catchers will be reporting for spring training for another season of baseball.

Can hardly wait for spring training to start....... Sick and tired of winter and the snow and ice....... Want to see the trees with their fresh new leaves and the smell of the freshly mowed new grass......

Like our Governor just stated, they weren't expecting what all we got & truly were caught off guard. Personally I think our county, which received lots more snow than expected, should've closed all day but then they didn't. It is a monumental mess, they're showing I-75 now and all the vehicles still on the sides of the road and just left where they left them.. Nickel to a dime next time, if it happens, it will all be done differently..

Second time around is always different. Here in St. Louis area, they don't usually plow the side streets and those folks wait for ever for the snow and ice to melt. Well when we recently received more than 12" of snow, the knew this just was not a good idea. So, now they area talking about plowing all the streets like they used to do. The people who live on those side streets were pretty upset that they hadn't seen a plow truck come through their area and started complaining.

Messes like this happened in 1982 and 2011 in Atlanta and we still haven't learned to get it right. Schools should have been closed yesterday, after weather forcasters said it would be here by noon or 1:00 PM....If not closed they certainly should have closed early. Gwinnett county which is Atlanta's largest didn't even close early. Some children slept in the stranded busses and some never left schoool and slept at school. Just a nightmare !

Hey, y'all. I'm in SC.

No school yesterday or today, and they just cancelled for tomorrow...layer of ice under about 3 inches of snow. DH closed his store today except for unloading trucks...but will go in tomorrow. We did see one wreck on the bridge...we were out walking around the neighborhood...the man said his wife sent him to the store for eggs. :0 That was an expensive egg trip.

Anyway, we are snuggled up with the fireplace and looking at the pretty snow. It'll be back to 60 this weekend. We have had record lows for a few weeks now, up and down with temps is usual here, but we have had some really cold cold nights/mornings in the teens. We just aren't use to that at all...and rarely get snow. It has been very exciting.

that is what i have seen alot of people online complaining about!! someone on CNN said Atlanta was asleep at the wheel because they should have been prepared so that the big "rushhour from h#ll" did not happen. one man said at noon it started to snow and for some stupid reason they decided to close ALL the schools at 1:30 with no advance notice! and at the same time you had business closings so all these people were on the road at the same time! he was NOT happy being in the same place on the highway for 16 hours!

we had some snow and ice here in central MS but our school district went back today. it was not nearly as bad as ATL - even though there were some accidents of course. the sun is out and shining now. temps will be in the 60's by friday - sunday we may be close to 70!

we have gotten the chance to use our fireplace more than we have in a long time - and that is a rare treat!! sometimes we go years without needing it.

Schools have to get in so many hrs before it counts as a full day. Maybe that's what they were trying to do. I don't know, what a mess. I couldn't imagine my child stuck on a school bus overnight. They knew it was coming, might not have been forecasted for the exact town or city, but in the area is close enough to take precautions for school children.
