Several years ago we had the same type situation. The front was suppose to miss us, but it hit hard and fast and was all ice. Schools and offices let out early and traffic was a nightmare. DH's workers were calling way after midnight to let him know they wouldn't be in because they were JUST getting home after being leg go early that morning. It was horrible. I stayed late and when I got on the road, I had to drive around abanded vehicles all the way home. DH had the same trouble when he came in. School buses were still dropping kids off during our 10:00 pm newscasts.

Stay safe everyone.
On a positive note...in a few short days pitchers and catchers will be reporting for spring training for another season of baseball.

I'm okay here. Safe and warm inside my house. I'm thinking about taking a nap.

We are in Cherokee County and got over 3 inches of snow and ice is a problem & the temps won't get much past freezing today but the sun is out.
Suzie, my concern would be with this "crippling" weather forecast well in advance, why were people at work and children in school?
Surely officials realized they could have a monumental mess on their hands.
Just a guess . . . but maybe the schools thought they could get in "credit" for a full day of school and not mess up their 180 days anymore than it already would be with today, tomorrow and maybe Friday too. Here, many times they'll dismiss IF threatening weather is on the way, 11:15, the earliest for full "credit", at the high school for the students who drive and are picked up by parents . . . 11:45 for the bus riders as they HAVE to offer them lunch. Then they can count it as a full day of instruction. Maybe they thought they could "beat the storm" and squeeze in that extra day on the calendar. Mine drive now . . .but I'd always stay tuned on days for possibility of early dismissal . . . now they also have the automated phone calls, update both Twitter and Facebook, plus scrolling at the bottom of the screen IF I have the tv tuned to a local ABC, CBS or NBC channel and of course wonderful cell phones and they'll let the kids text and/or call their parents . . . normally they are to be turned OFF.

It becomes a talent in the north! Every year though when the first snow fall occurs, people have forgotten how to maneuver the cars and anticipate what to do when it becomes icy.
I could have written the same thing! I did live in So. Mississippi for two years, and I know that they closed everything up if there was even a hint of a snowflake...but they needed to as they weren't equipped to deal with it.
Hope everyone in the South stays safe and warm. As we like to say around here...hunker down!

They are pleading with people to not come out but you know how people don't listen.. absolutely incredible watching what is happening now and trying to get this mess moving.
