Here in Georgia, we got some sleet and snow overnight. Right now, it's about 24 degrees; so, the snow is still around and looking beautiful. I'm sure the roads are bad considering that it started with sleet around 7:00 pm last night and turned to snow about 8:30 pm and continued into the night. Most of us will not go out but stay in and enjoy the beauty of the snow. It'll probably be gone by tomorrow as temps are supposed to go to the mid 40's. I'm a transplanted Northeasterner; so, I'm enjoying a little bit of the wintery temperatures and "white stuff".

I'm in Atlanta. It's 11 at my house right now and not expected to get to freezing today.
My husband and I did well yesterday. I work from home so we were all right.
My stepson spent over 7 hours trying to get home from work and never did get there. Fortunately, he was able to make it to my husband's nephew's house so he stayed there.
Co-workers of mine in our office, spent the night in the office. My friend left work, took over 2 and a half hours to drive 3 miles, turned around and went back to the office and stayed there with 5 others. I've heard from one co-worker that he left the office early this morning and finally made it home.
People are still stranded on roads and expressways. One baby was born on the expressway. We have 8 abandoned cars in front of our house.
Another friend of mine had to abandon her car. She walked over 6 miles to where her husband was. It took them another 6 hours to get home from there. A neighbor had their children. They got home at 3:00 this morning.
There have been reports on the news of people sleeping in the aisles at CVS, Home Depot and several grocery stores.
Hundreds of students had to spend the night at their schools.

How much snow did you get? 2 1/2 hours to go 3 miles?!? I can't imagine that. Was it the snow totals or traffic jams?

I know the weather has been brutal leaving a city frozen. We have temperatures hovering @ 9degrees this morning and hope for a little sunshine to warm the roads. I am always encouraged when I see other people helping each other and businesses staying open. The Hampton Inn at 280 had people scattered on all the floors with blankets and pillows, restaurants handing out free food. Glad your DSS found shelter. Take care.

We got about 3 inches at our house. The real problem was the ice. The roads were dry. The snow started and it melted on the roads and then froze and then the regular snow went on top of it.
My friend who turned around and went back to our office said she just about had a panic attack in her car before she turned around. She said she felt trapped.

Living in the snowbelt we are so used to getting 3-6 inches at a blink of an eye, I can imagine how people who aren't used to driving in snow have difficulty. It becomes a talent in the north! Every year though when the first snow fall occurs, people have forgotten how to maneuver the cars and anticipate what to do when it becomes icy.
Our kids had school today, they've been off because of snow since last Friday. They drove separately 15 miles to school today because my daughter needed to go an hour early. Ugh. Good thing all of our cars are 4 wheel drive. That makes a huge difference.

Like our Governor, Mayor and officials of surrounding counties said, it was when the weather started & so many people leaving work at the very same time, like schools all letting out.
We are in Cherokee County and got over 3 inches of snow and ice is a problem & the temps won't get much past freezing today but the sun is out.

HI LOVES....present and accounted for -
Well, we got between 3-4 inches here in S. Carolina (I'm near Augusta, GA), and according to the local news....the Bobby Jones Expressway was at a crawl this morning!
But, it's beautiful here (as long as you're not out in it). The temps will be hovering around 33-34 degrees today and if any snow melts, well it really will turn to ice cause it's going down to around 15-16 degrees tonight. By Friday - it'll be in the 50's and the weekend will be in the middle to high 60's....
I tried to get my little shih ztu out in the back yard, but she was NOT having anything to do with all that "white stuff"!
Thanks Loves for starting this nice thread. Showme started one too and it's much appreciated that many are concerned about their "southern friends". We just aren't equipped here in the South like the rest of the country, especially with the ice and we are at a standstill but still in "awe". If we get snow once every 3-5 years, we're lucky to see and experience this beautiful sight from the Lord.
