Post your etiquette rules below!

Any category --- what rules should all people follow to be polite?

I'll start....

Don't speak loudly into your phone in a public place.  No one else wants to hear your conversation.

Enter the doors that say "enter" and exit the doors that say "exit".

Do not bring your animals into someone else's home without their permission.

Don't snap your gum

Don't kick the back of the seat in front of you (airplane or movies)

No cell phones at the table

RSVP to invitations.  Don't make the host call you or wonder if you're coming...

@Mellie32:

You just made me chuckle about the phone....lol my mother since retiring talks on her phone all the time in public places. My sister and I tried discussing this with her the other day and she got very defensive and crotchety. My son says to just let it go, she is older and there is no changing her but it does get on my nerves.

I don't like when parents allow their children to make a mess at restaurants and they get up to leave and the floor looks like a landfill. I am not sure if it's a rule but that and loud crying babies in quiet restaurants....bring them if you must but take them outside if they are tired, cranky or sick. I love children but sometimes there are time and places for them to stay home with a sitter.

Pet Peeve...not holding the doors for women and particularly the elderly.

Not sending handwritten thank you cards and sending out generic emails thanking people for gifts or attending an event.

I am sure there are more I can think of.

The last bit of etiquette I passed on to a toddler was we don't eat our boogers, followed by don't feed your boogers to the doggie.  Rules to live by.

If you don't understand someone, say, "excuse me" not, "what?"

Don't try to be the center of attention, listen to others opinions

Good hygiene and grooming is a must

Table etiquette - no tooth picks, tissues or chewing with an open mouth.
