Lots of issues here.  Delayed mailings (envelopes) by weeks.  Send a check and the recipient just might get it a month later...about 20 mile trip.

Postmaster says there aren't enough "qualified" people for the jobs.

I ask..."not enough people or not enough who can do the job?"

He responded..."there are lots of people, not enough who can do the job."

How difficult is it to work at a local post office?

@Foxxee.  I think it's a difficult job that I wouldn't want.  Monotonous work for long hours stand on hard concrete in heat and cold with heavy lifting.  It would be easy to make mistakes.

I have found that that cheaper mail where UPS hands off to post office creates e-mails  to me that says it is delivered, but it means UPS delivered it to the post off.  They the PO will deliver it to me in a day or two.

@Sooner.  Mine never say "delivered" until the USPS  actually puts it into my mailbox.

@Kachina624 Oddly sometimes UPS has sent me messages that the package is delivered.  Took me several times to realize that the package delivered next mail day WAS the missing UPS package.  Nothing surprises me now.  Woman Very Happy

Good Lord, seriously? 😳

It's a job I would never want, no matter the pay. Right up there with UPS.

People who don't shovel their walks or secure their dogs. Counter people who get abused because a stamp went up by a nickel....city carriers who walk a route on 8Mile in Detroit.

Multiply the complaints here by 100. Every single day.

@Snowpuppy

Let me change from "how difficult", to lack of intelligence and capability, which is what I meant.  That is what the postmaster meant, as well.

Re: Post Office Delivery Issue

@Snowpuppy & @paixmcdao you are EXACTLY RIGHT!  The good carriers and clerks make it look easy but it's extremely hard, stressful and demanding.  So easy for someone ( @Foxxee )to casually remark "how hard can it be ?" when they have absolutely no idea.  I'd never judge anyone's job unless I'd actually done that job.
Walk a mile in my shoes, then have an opinion.

My Father was a mailman for many years. He worked hard at his job. He had the routes that went all over so he had the one mail truck in town. It was a mess in the winter when it snowed. He carried a shovel in the truck.

Shouldn't have used the word "difficult."  The words are lack of intelligence and capability.  That's what the postmaster meant.  I didn't use those words for obvious reasons.  However, I am getting feedback about stress, long hours, etc.  That's not what he meant.

Re: Post Office Delivery Issue

I was due an Amazon delivery today.  Did not happen.  Not surprised.  I usually see   at least 6 or 7 delivery fans from the various services.  Early today I saw one.  No more after that one.
