Banks are closed, libraries, state and federal offices. Schools where I live go back tomorrow. Vacation until next week is an awfully long break. Maybe those places don't have a February vacation? Colleges have a long winter break but I have never heard of public schools having off well into January.

Believe me , if I were still working , I would know this was a holiday for sure. What was better than a long weekend ??🌺

I was at the dentist last week. He was bemoaning the fact that he forgot to tell the staff to mark off today as a holiday! Hence, they scheduled patients. I'm sure the patients who are scheduled are happy to not have to take a day off from work for their appointment. Actually, I'm surprised none of them questioned things when they scheduled their appointment.

Yep, but tomorrow the whole world kinda hits the floor running after the slack off holiday season. I always hated working the first week in jan and the first week after labor day - everything is in such high gear.My birthday is Jan 5th and where I worked we got our birthday off as a paid holiday. I would always have trouble getting my birthday off because it would be so abnormally busy.

@151949 I totally understand. My birthday is Jan. 6 and I also could never get mine off because it was always spring registration at the college I worked and no one could take time off during regietration. Loving retirement!!!!! ![]()

My son doesn't go back to (high) school until next Monday, January 9, but he didn't start his winter break until December 23. Many schools had that entire week off (December 19-23), and many (most?) of those are going back tomorrow. In the districts in which my kids have gone to school, a two-week (or so) winter break has been the norm.

my dh had to go back to work today.
He said traffic was so light it was enjoyable ride to and from work today.
No wonder no mail delivery. Didn't realize no mail today.
That must mean garbage pick up will delayed by one day for us. Instead of Tuesday pick up it will be wednesday and friday pick up will be pushed to Saturday

Post Office locations will be closed Sunday, January 1, and Monday, January 2, the observed federal holiday. All Post Office locations will be open on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
Monday, I get it as their paid holiday off fell on a Sunday. But Tuesday? The huge company as my employer never gave us 2 days off. Union bargain maybe? Beats me! Non-political, just a question mods.
Never mind, I read this wrong. Oops!

My garbage pickup was normal today, as it was last Monday. I looked at the website for the garbage hauler that my HOA uses & they only observe July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years, so if those days fall on your normal trash pickup day, it would be delayed by one day, otherwise they pick up the trash & recycling as usual.
