As you know my husband had a bad fall about 6 weeks ago, and cracked 3 vertebrae in his neck. He is wearing a neck brace 24/7 and still has 6 weeks to go

If a fall can be a blessing in disguise his was. They did several CT scans and found  he had a build up of plaque in his arteries and they wanted to look at one of his kidneys. So his Dr ordered another scan, and a heart calcium test.  After the heart test we made an appointment to see a cardiologist . We also had another scan

He saw the cardio  Dr on Tues and he recommended the stress test  which he will take on Thursday

The last CT scan lasted 2 hrs instead of one ,and he had to drink 2 glasses of dye, instead of one. The next afternoon we get a call from our PCP telling us we must take my husband to the hospital immediately. He had a perforated appendix and an abscess

My husband never had any symptoms of appendicitis at all. He said he felt a bit chilled at times and had a couple of twinges in his side but he was never sick. He  thought the twinges we from the fall. He had a big bruise on is stomach

They couldn't operated on him because his appendix had ruptured and he was full of infection. They put him on IV antibiotics, and the next morning took him to surgery by needle. The did a CT scan to locate the area they wanted to drain and numbed him and inserted a needle and tubing  and pumped out the infection. He said the tube was as big around as his thumb and the drained 7 inches of infected matter. They scanned him again to make sure they got all the infection out of him.

He stayed overnight and was on 2 kinds of antibiotics  in a drip. The surgeon told him they don't removed appendix in people his age after a rupture. I googled it and it seems to be the way they do this now

The surgeon told him he woulnd't operated while he was in a brace anyway. We are fully satisfied with the care he has been given. Everyone has been wonderful

The heart specialist said he was only concerned with one of my husbands arteries, the one bringing blood into his heart and depending on what they find when he has the stress test he might have to get a stent . We won't know anything for a bit

I have just been too busy to post, and am still doctoring with my gastritis and gerd. I am lots better ,but it is still there. I have read sometimes ,some people never get rid of it. I hope I'm not going to be one of those cases

It's nice to be able to rejoin the group and relax for a bit. I've missed all of you

Sounds like a good story.  I'm so happy that this was found and will be tended to.  You got an early Christmas of the kind that matter.  Good luck and best wishes to you both.

Oh my @cherry! What a lot to handle all at one time.

You are so right and sometimes things happen for a reason, and what seems simple on the surface leads us on a journey that we never expected, but one that we needed to travel for our survival.

Thoughts and prayers for you both, for speedy recovery and continued good health. Please keep in touch with us when you can.

I just want to add his kidney is ok. He has a cyst as big as his kidney, but it's a simple cyst and not a tumour

Two surgeons told my husband not to worry about it. My husband had showed no symptoms of heart disease. He isn't out of breath, nor in pain. God is good

@cherry, it's good to hear from you! You were on my mind this week!

I do believe in Guardian Angels and it sounds as if you have a few! You and your DH have been through quite an ordeal, but you "sound" like your positive self....

Did you come up with a solution for getting DH up and down stairs?

Hugs,

@cherry  Yes, I remember about his fall.  My goodness, the two of you are having to deal with so much all at once.......my praises to you and DH for your continued strength through all of this.  As you say, sometimes what seems bad eventually turns out for the good.  After all of this is done, your DH will be able to look forward to many happy and healthy years ahead.  God moves in strange and unpredictable ways.....he obviously has blessed you both!   Cat Very Happy

Cherry, it is good to hear from you. We have been concerned.

I hope that you are both on the mend now. I am glad to hear that Mr. Cherry has been receiving such excellent care.

I know you must have been overwhelmed.

Take care!
