@Christina042@Plaid Pants2, I couldn't agree more.  I have never liked her music and don't understand how she won so many awards.  It sounds to me like she is shreaking and cannot make out one word.

Please tell me how you get the links instead of this awful quoting.  TIA

@Christina042@ - Are you referring to the @ symbol?  If you put the @ in front of a posters name your response will go into their notification link.  That is an easy way to make sure someone sees your response.

I think I watched every single minute and recorded lots of it.  I could have done without Aretha Franklin and according to the remarks on Utube, I'm not the only one.  IMO, she was absolutely awful.  They all said they couldn't understand a single word she sung.  She did her little dance on her way offstage and didn't look very happy as she was leaving.  Pope Francis didn't look too thrilled either.  Now, Andrea Boccelli?  I could listen to him forever.

I fell asleep before the performance began, and I awoke to Aretha caterwauling. To me, that was disrespectful to the Pope. Yes, I know, she sings gospel and all that. But, that wasn't the time, nor the place for her caterwauling.

You know, if they didn't mention the name of the song, nobody would have ever known it was Amazing Grace.  Surely not a time for gospel singing.  I wonder why she was booked insteadof a zillion other singers who could have done a much better job.  She needs to retire.  Her outfit, whatever that was, wasn't appropriate either IMO.

Why not a time for gospel singing? It's an integral part of American faith. I have heard a LOT of gospel singing in urban Catholic parishes.

I enjoy most types of music, gospel included.  Aretha Franklin seemed to butcher Amazing Grace.  It went on forever.  That dance at the end was strange too.  I would have rather seen Jackie Evanco or many others sing Amazing Grace than her.  I never got the "Queen of Soul" title either.  Her voice is like chalk on a blackboard to me.  It was  however, a wonderful few days for all to witness.

Her performance was horrific in every way (I was embarrassed that she was our example of American excellence). I couldn't understand a single word she "sang??" (SCREAMED).

And when she stomped her feet, waved her arms, & left the stage without turning & paying respect to the Pope, well...

I have watched his visit for quite a few days. Shed a few tears for his compassion of people. I do think many people will hold his words in their heart and remember him with much love.

I agree. I think we as a nation needed Pope Francis to remind us of several basic things...the importance of family, values, & compassion. And he did so with such gentle love....with a single touch, a sweet smile, & tender words.

After the Pope left,  AF sang Nessun Dorma. (parts in English, I think)  Puccini must be rolling over in his grave.  This was the worst rendition I've ever heard. (even worse than Michael Bolton's) She literally screamed for the last 20 seconds.

I saw a small clip of her, her voice did not sound good at all. Her voice used to be strong.

I was invited by friends to see their kids dance at the conference in Philly but due to security, only one adult could accompany the kids. So...I couldn't go. This was Secret Service's idea. They did background checks on everyone that close.

I know, the security was unbelievable.  It was discouraging a lot of people who wanted to attend.  I bet all the security folks are breathing a lot easier now that he's gone.

I can't even imagine how much work went into this visit.

I doubt it, millions attended the event.
