Thank you @Meowingkitty for the adorable pictures and serious reminder, @stevieb for your eloquent posts, and all other posters for their comments showing compassion for people and animals. Much appreciation to you all, LadyAlice
You're welcome @LadyAlice and the more I think about that 'they'll get over it' remark, the more incensed I become. Putting it nicely, iIt's uninformed and insensitive. Some people don't have the capacity to 'just get over it' and animals, unlike people, don't have the capacity to understand what is happening or to know whether or not they're in any danger. All for something so ultimately meaningless and without any actual value.

I see no reason to stop fireworks because some animals are scared. They'll get over it. How many times are humans scared and get over it. I like animals as well as the next person, but there are times when humans take precedence over animals. JMO
I might add, I think fireworks should be done by persons who know what they are doing!!
You obviously don't have stupid neighbors who shoot them off until 3 in the morning for several nights in a row. Nor do you live where it's extremely dry and a house can burn down with a single spark from said stupid neighbors. Our neighbors several years ago burnt their trash can into a melted puddle of plastic by throwing fireworks in it plus they burnt their garage door and it could easily have been the whole house and several neighbors. I don't have a problem with controlled settings but I don't like to see animals, vets with PTSD and others scared by fireworks.

@Patriot3 I don't even know how to respond to this.🤬
Wait - yes I do. Your nic is totally wrong considering what you just posted.
When is the last time you worked with returning military persons suffering from PTSD? They do not just get over it.
Clueless.

@Meowingkitty This is so true and a sweet crew delivering the message! Saturday night it sounded like the bricks would fall off of our house due to fireworks. My little westie even with TRANZODONE and a Thundershirt was off the rails, GOD bless him. His anxiety is so fearful you can not hold him.

Not even to mention that anyone actually believing fireworks sole purpose is as a 'tribute' ought to rethink that stance. They're a money maker and people, for whatever reason, get off on the noise and, to some extent, the spectacle. Moreover, they're not just shot off on the 4th of July. Hardly. It's an industry, not a Yankee Doodle Dandy sing along, for heaven's sake.

where do you all live that fireworks last for days
‎07-03-2023 07:09 PM
I can't get too worked up about it because you can't stop thunder and lightening or lots of other noise associated with life. It's not like it is every day.
If there is a fire danger yes, it is a real issue. A little noise? It's life.

@LadyAlice : Thank you. Well stated and totally agree. My DH is retired military with PTSD and other issues. Everything started in our neighborhood last Friday and will continue for at least two weeks constantly from all sides of our house. Yes, everyone knows his problems. I have blinds on all windows, but just installed remote control shades doesn't reduce all noise but can't see the the flashing colors. I am praying for heavy rain every night.

@jackthebear : I live in Georgia and in the city and it happens until 2 or 3 in the morning for several days. Also , New Years. Last month - no special holiday but some had fireworks going.

Many animals don't just get over it, birds often fly into danger at night and die along with other wildlife. Lightening can't be helped, fireworks can....pretty simple if you ask me!
Not very patriotic to tell a soldier with PTSD to "get over it".
