Don't forget me!!
07-01-2023 08:09 AM
I live in a military town and in a military/military related neighborhood; the fireworks will start probably tonight and go on through Tuesday. I often wonder why we have so many fireworks but I know they feel they served for their rights and will exercise them as they see fit...and rightfully so. I'm not a fan of fireworks; there's one house here where the street in front of their house is filled with the paper trash from so many going off. We do have public displays here but some want to do their own for whatever reason. Until the mindset changes, I'll be happy that they're celebrating our country.

When the fireworks start my 135 lb. "scaredy-dog" will go hide behind the shower curtain and shake til it's over. Breaks my heart to see him like that! He's the same with gunshots...and since we live rural, it happens fairly often.
My cats, however, are a different story...they'll just look a little startled at first, then "meh" and back to sleep!

I think fireworks began for humans to enjoy as a tribute to our great country. There were animals then, too. Fireworks are sent up all over the world.
I see no reason to stop fireworks because some animals are scared. They'll get over it. How many times are humans scared and get over it. I like animals as well as the next person, but there are times when humans take precedence over animals. JMO
I might add, I think fireworks should be done by persons who know what they are doing!!

I can celebrate my country by being the best citizen I can be. People with PTSD and humans and animals injured by fireworks don’t just get over it. States have become more lenient because of the tax money that firework sales bring in. This nonsense can go on for days in some areas. Neighborhoods should not be war zones. Fireworks have also been used as weapons against law enforcement as seen recently in Paris. I love my country in other ways every day. Stay safe posters and your animals.
I agree with you. There are plenty of ways to celebrate whatever one wishes to celebrate without this nonsense. As far as I'm concerned, they're idiotitc and I got over them well before I was sixteen.

And it's not just fur babies and those of us with PTSDs who are impacted. I live in a rural area with major fireworks. I really feel for the wildlife (especially deer) and farm animals that will be subjected to the noise and the fire show. I can escape and look after myself but the poor critters have no options, and I don't see how it is possible for them to "get over it" so easily.
Happy and safe 4th of July to everyone❣️

Celebrations don't require smoke, noise, accidents and so on. Moreover, there is no need to to 'take precedence' over animals. One would like to think the Revolutionary War was fought for reasons far more significant than the right to shoot off fireworks, for heaven's sake... If you want to wave a flag and feel fireworks are the only way to do so then go to your local municipal display. In my area, other than bonafide celebrations that've obtained permits, they're banned. Of course the nitwit contingent still shoots them off. Police are supposed to shut them down, but really, how can they? Of course, if any given person is caught and charged, well, they'll just have to get over it...

Fireworks also affect the wildlife...I backup to Rock Creek Park, MD/DC and the fireworks go on for days! I dislike the noise and so do my kitties, Angus and Maxwell will come to me when fireworks go off! There were fireworks 3 nights ago, there will be fireworks in my town this evening, in DC the 4th.
