It goes to show you what lousy actors Warren and Faye are that they couldn't use their craft to improvise and find a way to give the guy from PW the heads up. NO, they chose to allow the incorrect winner to climb onto the stage.

----------------------------Exactly my thoughts...I would think that Faye and/or Warren would have clarified the winner's name before announcing it!!
And I think that the reason people are so upset at the PW employee is that he let down his employers, the award winner, the awards staff and the awards audience by not performing his job duty. Most companies do not allow an employee to use their private cell phone for private business while on the job. When I worked, I know that could be a reason to be let go.

Wouldn't it have to be a BIG DEAL to fire 2 people? And yet, no one I know (including this place) thinks it's worth a moment of their time. So, why then, did 2 people lose their jobs over it?
This really must be a Hollywood ego thing and yeah, it's frightening to think their heads are THAT big.
In any event, I'm done. : )
Thank you all!.
The only part of it that I don't totally get is why they fired her also. It seemed that it was that one guy's fault, but there certainly could be stuff of which I haven't been appraised.
Anyway, yeah done is good, eh?
Now days that's the way it goes with pretty much any 'news' piece. People discuss it until it's dust. I guess people like to feel that they are a part of things or something - who knows.
Anyhoo, hope you have a happy day! ![]()

I'd heard the 2 accountants were fired from the Oscars, not from PwC. Cosmic inconsequentiality aside, we can all see why the Academy wouldn't want them back, right? And since the work and reputation of the company rely on their employees following rules and paying attention to detail, this is definitely bringing negative attention to the firm. To me that would support firing them from their "day jobs" as well, although again, I heard they had not been. It will be very embarassing for PwC if the Academy drops them altogether.

They were fired from the Oscars telecast, not from the accounting firm of PwC.

It's all a matter of perspective. People here lose their minds when someone posts about a former host, or criticizes a hosts hair or dress,. The success or failure of a movie effects not just the stars but all of the workers in that industry. A man who had the responsibility to handle the envelope, acted like a child, and screwed it up.As for Shirley mc Laine, she is Beatty's sister, and probably felt bad for him. Some of you don't care for Hollywood, but this is a story that some people find at least a little interesting

As long as they are still employed by their original employer, good. To me, it's a "you've embarrassed us at the club so you can't work the club anymore" kind of firing.
What's disturbing is they are receiving death threats according to another poster over this.

What, exactly, is it that's causing people to be fired, nasty comments from celebrities and all the press? Is it just Hollyweird doing its thing as usual?
Can you tell I don't give a flip about the Oscars? I DO, however, want to know why this story is appearing on all my news feeds, hence the original question.
who was fired? the accountants who made the mistake will not have that opportunity at the oscars again, but they are still a part of the firm.
30+ million viewers watched the oscars.....there was a HUGE mistake at the end, one that has not happened before. that gets attention......the oscars always get attention, both good and bad. good thing about newsfeeds though is that one can pass by the stories that are of no interest.
Nope. They were fired. That was the most recent bit of "news" that came across my screeen and honestly, was what triggered my post. I thought "who cares?".
it does help to read the article or articles when you want to discuss what is going on. they were NOT FIRED......they will not be working at the oscars anymore, but they still have their jobs at PWC.

I said it that night, not long after it happened: there had to have been two duplicate cards.
Now we know there were, and that the man from PW gave Warren the wrong card because he, the PW guy, was busy tweeting about Emma Stone.
Cullen, if I remember his name correctly, admitted it and will no longer be the card guy, although he wasn't fired.
End of story.
