@I am still oxox wrote:Thank you for all your replies I guess I was very uniformed what type of places assisted living is. Some answers and attitudes really shocked me. I was trying to find out facts and I did so thank you all.
@I am still oxox You really need to visit these places in person to see what they are like. When my mother looked like she would need to go either into assisted or independent living I went to several places near her in Fl and even a few near me in PA. I would visit both the independent and assisted living sides.
I have to tell you that though some looked very beautiful, they were still institutions and the residents for the most part in assisted living were one step away from a nursing home.
Even my 92 year old mother at the time didn't want to move to one because she claimed they (the residents) were all too old for her.
The residents in the independent living part of the facility were mostly in their 80s or so and seemed to be able to do things on their own. The residents in the assisted living appeared older and more sickly. Many were in wheelchairs just propped up in the social room staring into space....very sad.
As I said you need to visit to see the differences between the two. Plus they are very expensive!

Sine there's new complex nearby, why not take a tour and ask questions, @I am still oxox, even if this place isn't suitable for maybe another 15 years?

How is the commute going to work? 40 miles each way? Will you miss a meal if traffic is heavy? Can you be sure?

@Still Raining We are both retired, I have not worked in years and he has not worked in 3 years.

Unbelievably expensive option. There are many in the town where we live, and they required long-term commitment. I'd be surprised if they allow you to say for single-digit weeks, even if you are willing to pay their price$$$$.
Check nearby neighborhoods for AirBNBs / VRBOs. When we had a situation that required us to be out of the home for 4 weeks, we cut a deal with the lady who owns the house across the street that she runs solely as an AirBNB (which is a whole other headache but it worked out for us this time). We rented it for lower than her list price, but she got four weeks of guaranteed occupancy. I could literally walk across the street to check on the service people multiple times a day every day.

I understand being in an area where options are limited (we're rural here, so I definitely get it), but you would potentially be taking up space that someone's family is desperately looking for for a loved one. And sometimes that search is very time-sensitive when it's time to move someone with serious needs into a space where they can live securely.

What a strange thread. Assisted living is not somewhere to go during a home reno. Stay at a hotel if you want to be pampered. SMH

Exactly!! However, those that think or believe it's all about them...can't be bothered to even take a moment to see what they are saying.
