@I am still oxox You really need to visit these places in person to see what they are like. When my mother looked like she would need to go either into assisted or independent living I went to several places near her in Fl and even a few near me in PA. I would visit both the independent and assisted living sides.
I have to tell you that though some looked very beautiful, they were still institutions and the residents for the most part in assisted living were one step away from a nursing home.
Even my 92 year old mother at the time didn't want to move to one because she claimed they (the residents) were all too old for her.
The residents in the independent living part of the facility were mostly in their 80s or so and seemed to be able to do things on their own. The residents in the assisted living appeared older and more sickly. Many were in wheelchairs just propped up in the social room staring into space....very sad.
As I said you need to visit to see the differences between the two. Plus they are very expensive!
