@SilleeMeewrote:

Here in Colorado Springs, The Garden of the Gods was a place of sacred Native American gatherings, the Ute tribe in particular, but other Pueblo Nation tribes also participated. I believe it is no longer being done because of pressure to stop the crowding of the park.

@SilleeMee. II didn't know the Indians ever backed down on using resources for their ceremonies.

I heard a TV ad this week for the Ute casinos.  They referred to winnings as "Ute Loot".  For some reason that struck me as funny.

They called the gatherings 'pow-wows'. Lots of beating drums and chanting went on well into the night. Nearby residents complained to city officials about the noise and traffic. The land belongs to the city of CS  park service so I think they had to move it some place else. Not sure where though. @Kachina624

@Kachina624 Lol DH and I go to the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio, Co.  On the first Wednesday of the month they give us Ute Loot...that's the only time we go because they also give us 6.00 off lunch... it's owned by the Southern Utes.  Garden of the Gods as well as Sedona are breathtaking...DW

@SilleeMee. We have The Gathering of Nations, the world's biggest Pow-Wow, here this month.  I've never been to it as I get a headache from the drumming just watching on TV.  Their costumes are gorgeous, however, and probably worth a trip to see them.

Nice to see you againWoman Happy @dancingwoman. I was just thinking about you the other day when the national drought monitor was released a couple of weeks ago. It sure is bone dry down your way.

Yes @SilleeMee its very very dry down here...we never had to plow this year...the ground wasn't white for more than 24 hrs before it melted.  We are hoping for a wet spring but so far it isn't happening...fingers crossed....DW

@phoenixbrdwrote:

@Ms tyrion2  I enjoyed the vortex in Sedona....but found the city itself so full of tourists/commercialism. Sacred ground if you journey into the landscape surrounding Sedona.

@phoenixbrd    That "vortex" sucks the $$$$ right out of your wallet........(!!)

@Kachina624  I lived in CA 25 years.......and everybody who came to visit me (plenty of them, and some I barely knew) wanted to go see the Missions.  I've been to ALL of them......more than once......     And, yup, I've been to San Xavier del Bac (Tucson), too.    Some times, I waited outside.......dog-sitting.........
