Pigeon Peas?

My DIL and DS were here over the weekend and we were out by the pool and she noticed a tree growing over my next door neighbor's fence. She yelled out "pigeon peas" OMG, like they were some kind of rarity. I never heard of them. So, we walked over to their yard and asked if we could come and look at the tree. They said "sure" and sure enough it was a tree growing over their fence from the people on the street behind us.

They told us we could cut as much as we wanted, since all the stuff from those other people are breaking through my neighbor's privacy fence. So, we took a couple of Publix bags and filled them up.

She went absolutely nuts over these peas. Even after I examined them, I still don't know what they are and why she is so excited over them. She also couldn't understand why my neighbors weren't excited about them, since they are Hispanic.

Does anyone know anything about these pigeon peas???? Want any???????{#emotions_dlg.lol}
