Re: Phone message that my overdue taxes are forgiven

The scam most likely would be to get the person to answer and ask for personal info inorder to deposit or send them documents, etc for the tax forgiveness to be done. Scammers never stop coming up with new angles to try andd get someone to bite. When my phone says possible scan,  I block the number and don't answer. Got one yesterday morning that really irritated me since it rang at 6:15 am leaving the classic message that your visa, etc has just been charged thousands for the 10 laptops you just ordered. All bogus, all ridiculous.

I seem to recall that the Do Not Call registry is for phone calls in the U.S. and is pretty effective.

Unfortunately, now some spammers call from outside the U.S. and via the INTERNET.

Technically, they aren't breaking our laws and regulations.

Someone please add more information if you're familiar with the specifics.  This is all I recall at the moment.

@Tinkrbl44

I felt it was effective the first few years, but those days have passed. I receive all of my calls on my cell. Several spam calls throughout the week. If my phone rings and it's not from someone that I know I just ignore the call now.

The only time it get's a little tricky is if you are expecting a call back for example the doctors office or a service person. Then you have to pick up the phone if you don't want to miss the call.

Kachina6244   We've received these type of calls off and on over the years.  They'll try anything, and keep trying to catch those susceptible to suggestion or just not knowing, to scam them.  Yes,things can be gotten, but these scammers, want it the lazy way if you just hand it over, not knowing about what they're up to.  some are very believable, and others, to far out there to be believable.  We let unknowns go to voice mail.

I'm in NOCAL.  Got that message today, and yesterday and day before that.  Omg, it must be the new Rachel home loan things. My friends are getting same thing. What is weird is it is same number, I blocked it, but I think one number comes up on ID and they call from another. I get 3 a day

It's a scam. Just hang up or delete the messages.

So what would be the scam?

Just like millions of others who send these kind of messages, emails, texts, scammers want your bank, credit card, debit card, SSN, bank account #, and other personal information so they can take all your money.

I get a scam email, call, or text almost every day. I block and report them to microsoft who then does work on it at their end.

The IRS sends letters and won't call, send texts, or emails about past due taxes. Medicare doesn't call or text or email about any bill. Financial institutions don't call, text or message you about most things.

We have to be on our toes every minute to avoid scams.

They ask because it's easy and there are people who will give it out.
