Re: Phone Scams are back from Christmas holiday

I only recently got caller ID.  You all are the first to know...seriously.  And I'm not sure I'm telling anyone else.  Sometimes I don't want to talk...even if I DO know who it is!

Anyway, I use it and I love it!!  Saves me so much time!

I spent a little time at http://www.whitepages.com/reverse_phone this morning, checking the numbers I didn't answer.  All but one was noted as "scam/fraud."

I usually come home to a message or two telling me there's nothing wrong with my accounts but I should call.  Really?  Nothing wrong?  Why would I call??

The ones I checked today didn't leave a message.  I wonder if they're the scam IRS or something like it?

So...I've got caller ID now.  Let's keep it between us, ok? Woman Wink

Spurt, thank you.  I immediately went to an IRS site about reporting such calls but became confused about what to do.

What guts these people have.  Really.  The bad kind of guts.  No qualms about taking money that other people worked hard for.

I've received robo calls from DiTech daily for years.....have no idea why they call...but just like any other call that I don't know...I don't pick up.  If someone has something critical to say, they would leave a message explaining why they are calling.  Otherwise, it is a crank/marketing call.

@phoenixbrd ~ can't you block the calls?

@AKgirl2

Even if you block calls all they do is call back using the next numerical number if you block 208-123-0756, they just come back with 208-123-0757....and on it goes .....its a never ending story....Woman Frustrated

@phoenixbrd ~ I started getting this type of call 2 wks ago, and your right, I noticed same area code and that the last 4 digits change.  How infuriating...wonder if there's anything one can do?

@AKgirl2

Unfortunately the FTC seems overwhelmed and many of these calls actually originate in foreign locations (--I read they mask the numbers somehow to it make it look likes its from the US) and the FTC has no jurisdiction in these countries......  The only ones that I reported that seemed to stop immediately were the IRS robo calls (I didn't pick the phone, I used the number they gave me to call immediately or I would be arrested (wink, wink)....) and after I reported the number to the FTC they stopped.....I guess the scammers were conducting illegal activities since they were imitating a U.S. government agency  so the IRS/FTC could take action against them.....But the rest no matter how many times you report the same company using a different number nothing seems to happen and now NO MORE ROBO charges for their services and some telecommunication companies aren't available on NoMoreRobo......Woman Frustrated

@Spurt ~ these degenerates always find a way.  Right now, seems the best thing to do is not to answer, and report the calls you know will be stopped or controlled, for awhile anyway😤

Just put no or leave blank the parts about a financial loss.....

Or

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov

choose ““Impostor Scams.”    since you didnt give them any money leave those questions blank and answer only whats applicable....
