Hello! My daughter is planning a business trip to Phoenix in January, and I will tag along with her. Anyone know what kind of weather to expect? What kinds of clothes to take for three days?
Any help appreciated.

I lived in Phoenix for 3 years and it gets cold there in the winter. She needs to take warm clothes and a mid to heavy weight jacket or coat. It could be just mildly chilly or cold.

We used to live in Las Vegas (similar weather to Phoenix) and we would always get a chuckle watching the tourists in shorts, t shirts and flip flops in January when the temps were in the 40s and sometimes a lot colder. It is not always 100+ in either of those cities.

Have lived in Phoenix for nearly 40 years. While I have seen winter visitors walking around in shorts, flip flops & tanks; I'm in leggings, sweaters & scarves. Definitely bring jacket or warm sweater & maybe something lighter too in case of warmer days. If you're from a colder climate, it may not seem that cold to you. Google weather forecast a few days before leaving to see what temps are predicted during your visit.

Good idea to check the weather before hand as weather in the desert in winter can swing wildly. You never know when a rogue snowstorm might pop up.

It was 37° last night...and it CAN get down in the 20°s here during the winter. If there's enough moisture in the atmosphere, we have had snow flurries.
As @Kachina624 mentioned, winter weather on the desert is quite unpredictable.
January is NOT swimming and sunbathing weather unless you're a polar bear.

@Desertdi It's supposed to be 14° at the airport in Albuquerque tonight. It'll be colder at my house in the Northern suburbs. Didn't get out of 30s today. Of course our weather is quite different from yours due to our altitude. It's windy too.

@Kachina624 My heat pump won't "spark" ON if it's below 40°...and I've been freezing with just space heaters going.
I really don't envy your 14 degrees. I honestly don't know what I would do if it got THAT cold. Hotel room rates are around $400 this time of year... di

@Desertdi Take your electric heater, go into a bedroom and keep the door shut....maybe until March.

Was there in January years ago ... my outer wear was a simple polar fleece jacket. Kept me warm day and night. Sky Harbor airport (PHX) has wonderful stores there too just in case!
