After reading this entertaining thread, it occured to me that most of this just comes down to consideration for others. If we all used consideration we would be peeved less often and peeve others less often. Take the example cited of the person in the check out lane who did not get payment ready while items were being rung up. Perhaps they were distracted thinking about something unpleasant or dire happening in their life, not all wounds are visible. On the other hand, if that is not the case, have consideration for the people in line behind you as your actions have an effect on their time. None of us know what others are facing that day.
As far as texting while driving, unacceptable. When you are driving you have control of what could be a lethal weapon through inattention.

My pet peeve...people telling me what to do based on their own or someone else's experience.
There's an accident, the person died because they were't wearing their seatbelt. If they'd been wearing a seatbelt they might have lived.
Tell me that. Tell me YOU wear your seabelt all the time.
Don't tell me, "Please wear your seatbelt." Especially if you and I have never met, have no personal connection, etc.
Tell me the facts. Let me make of them what I will. Don't tell me what to do.
Just don't.

sanctimonious hypocrisy, especially, couched in passive-aggressiveness &/or smugness

The paper or plastic liners are called tamper-evident and we can thank the Ty****l killer for that.

Just thought of another one: library books that reek of cigarette smoke.

People who complain about the younger generation, people who complain about higher education, and people who are always complaining if they think someone else knows something they don't.
Talk about inferiority complexes...

Posters that feel if they start a thread, it is THEIRS and if you post an opinion contrary to theirs, they scold you.

I think it's worse when posters who disagree with you get angry if you present facts contrary to what they think. Facts are facts, not scold.

Right now my pet peeve is cell phones in the classroom.
I work with high school students in groups. I really detest it when we are trying to have a group discussion, and all but maybe one or two have their phones out and are not paying attention! Personally, I think the teachers should have a bin on their desk, and all phones dropped in that bin until five minutes before class is over...then they can come get them.
Unfortunately, it's not my classroom. It's the teacher's decision to deal with this or not.

When a friend bad-mouths somebody in their family -Then, when you offer support, they begin to defend the person they trashed! Awkward, and makes ya feel like a rat! Never again - From now on, I'll just listen.
