You wouldn't want a "stenciled" look for sure-

Have you thought at all about brow extensions? I have a friend who has them, they are beautiful-but, realistically, they don't last very long-

But, if it's just a brow tail you need, you might be able to get a deal on the microblading! Smiley Wink

Could I be bored maybe? And brow beating you? LOL

There are many that offer Groupons too which make it more reasonable.

Ahhh, yah...but no. At least, not for me. In LA when I was investigating tattooing several years ago, when you looked up their website (if they had one) and their background, experience & photos, the Groupon people were the ones I knew I wouldn't go to.

A couple of years ago I would have agreed with you but I know a ton of salons and other places that are very well respected who have started to use groupons. I know the salon my girlfriend works at had one about 6 months ago and they are the #1 salon for microblading and are the highest reviewed on nearly every site where reviews are allowed (yelp, allure, glassdoor, angieslist, etc...)  I would be hard pressed to find any color, cutting, facialist, massage therapist, microblader, etc.. that hasn't offered them at some point.

I can't speak to tattoo salons though.

Wow, @silentgirl, that's fantastic that an option like that is available. I never thought of it (don't know why). The Cancer Center of the last hospital I worked at had a mini shop on the floor where it was with wigs, hats, scarves, (breast) prostheses, make-up, etc. and once a month they would have free workshops for anyone interested.

I think it really depends on the area Groupon has to draw from. I'm a long-time Groupon user (almost since it started). So Cal had zillions of different offers every day and week - many, many services and providers to choose from in spa, salon, restaurants, tailors - you name it. Much of it in the beauty area was dreck. The restaurants, usually a good deal.

Where I am now, they might as well not even bother. I have asked for local (15 mi away is as local as I get) and slightly farther (50-60 mi), and the number of offers is about a tenth of what it was in LA, and they are "permanent, i.e. the same businesses have had the same offer every day for a year+. The good ones I've gotten in the "spa/beauty" category have been 2 - a 50 minute drive from me. We're fairly sparsely populated, so not a lot to choose from. I wish it were different here! I did, though, have a facial from the esthetician that did the hair & makeup for Ann Hathaway's wedding through Groupon.

Re: Permanent Brows - Microblading vs Tattooing

My sister had permanent eyebrows done through what must have been the tatoo process. It has been at least five years, and they are still there. Personally, I don't like the style she chose, but that is her decision.

Re: Permanent Brows - Microblading vs Tattooing

[ Edited ]

I can count the hairs in my eyebrows.  The first thing I notice on someone's face is the eyebrows.  I admit, I have eyebrow envy.

For years I've researched having my brows tattooed on.  When I finally found someone I thought perfect for the job, I had basal cell spots removed from my brow area.  My derm did not recommend going ahead with the procedure as she felt the ink would not take evenly in the area.

I was not familiar with microblading.  Honestly, it looked (and sounded) painful and the results did not look all that great. (in the first few pictures)

So, I'll continue to wear bangs and hide my Lancome penciled on brows.

Re: Permanent Brows - Microblading vs Tattooing

I am having my brows microbladed next month.  I have alopecia and have lost most of my eyebrows.  It really does look very natural.  Yes, you have to have them retouched once in a while, but it beats drawing them on every day.  At least I will have the same pair of eyebrows on a daily basis. LOL!

And that's my feeling - I just want something that doesn't stand out, that looks natural, and I don't have to give it a thought.

Yes, I don't know if everyone's aware that you have to have it maintained or kept up periodically, the tattooing OR the microblading. That should in a sense reassure people who are really worried they'd hate it and then what, because it's "permanent."  No, it's only as permanent as long as Botox, fillers, etc are, maybe slightly longer. It's 3-4 years permanent, with touch-ups. Much will depend on the person's own pigment and how much melanin they have to start with. Since my skin and eyes are light, I wouldn't expect it would last max time on me.

Re: Permanent Brows - Microblading vs Tattooing

I would choose microblading so I could fill it in with brow pencil to avoid that sameness day in day out appearance that is a sure giveaway.  I have seen women with microblading and always could tell just like tattooing.  Brow pencils can look pretty flawless and especially if you use two different shades when you are completely without brows such as a blonde base and then a med to dark brown for shading and emphasis on the arch.  My brows are sparse and over time became expert on filling them in.

With all the products out there, over the years I've tried a few. Filling in and creating an arch as a believable brow is a no can do, for me. I have brows, but they've never been especially full and now half of them are white, and I have some of those "wild" white hairs. My brows are differently shaped from each other, and neither one of them has ever had an arch. So, not blessed in the "easy to fix" way.  And no, not spending half an hour messing with them because the end result, done by me, would look no better than before I started.

I suspect it's more/most difficult to microblade on sparse light brows - the technician would really have to be good as there's less sub-par work that could pass or be ignored or overlooked. Not too dark, not too light, and thick enough but not too thick.
