A good immune system is the best defense.
Exactly. The fact that all these surfaces are being tested and the results publicized are only making people paranoid and unnecessarily grossed out. Reasonable caution is prudent, but these are the same strains of bacteria that people have been successfully dealing with forever, especially those that were brought up in the era of public drinking fountains and phone booths, and there has never been any kind of mass epidemic associated with coming in contact with them. But you can be sure that by people being too clean and sanitized, their bodies will start to react negatively.
Yes.
It's been suggested that the overuse of antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers are responsible for people getting sick more.

What is it with some of you?
Is it that you don't know enough about an auto-immune disorder to know what you're talking about?
Why on earth do you continue to belittle people who fight to stay alive almost every day?
You make fun, you say they are OCD when you clearly don't have a grasp on what that even is.
You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

That's pretty much the point. Some of us here don't have a good immune system, and there is nothing we can do about that except take precautions. What is a cold to you can be life-threatening pneumonia to us.
Hi Noel
Yes you are correct. Even if it doesn't turn into a major illness, it takes forever to get over the average cold. I had to skip my weekly methotrexate again this week, trying to get over this bug I've had for more than 3 weeks
How are you doing? How are your ribs?

I understand your point that you can't think of everything, but you can lessen the odds. Especially with the knowledge that most bacteria or viruses don't live forever, especially not on all surfaces.
If you've ever watched what goes on in the service area, you know there are people in and out of cars all the time. How else do they move cars?
Do you really think they put on a seat belt to go a few feet?
Dealerships around here have you drop off your car in one area then they take it to a service area not within walking distance. They sometimes test drive cars after repairs before they return the car to the pick up area, so yes I think mechanics touch seat belts.

bette
I'm sorry you are so ill, and having to skip the methotrexate. I understand, sweet lady.
The same kind of thing is happening with my ribs. What would take someone else a week or so to get past, is a lot slower for me. I'm actually surprised at the pain involved and its effects. Wow.
I am so sick of those who don't have a clue what they're talking about but feel free to tell us off.

test driving a car on the open road......sometimes they have to drive a few miles to hear a noise, test out the brakes, see if check engine lights come back on after a certain amount of mileage.

I don't think the comments are directed to those who are ill; rather those that are perfectly healthy but paranoid and living their lives sanitizing everything in sight.
Obviously if someone has a compromised immune system or other health issues, they should take every precaution imaginable.

I'm sorry about your ribs, I know how painful it is.
I get what they are saying, over use of antibiotics and such. What I don't understand is why they think it applies to absolutely everyone and anyone cautious is a nut case
