Re: Paying off student loans from your social security

How the heck do you get away with not paying for 20+ years, My daughter missed her $600 a month payment by ONE day and they called.

Re: Paying off student loans from your social security

If people are having student loan debt repayment being withheld from their Social Security benefits, they're not the 20-30 somethings that there seems to be so much finger-pointing and criticism directed at. They're from the OP's generation. Ya know, the ones that hold themselves out as sooooooo fiscally responsible and superior. Smiley Frustrated

Re: Paying off student loans from your social security

The subject matter is kind of a pet peeve of mine. I have been to many a cocktail party where people of my generation bragged about not paying back their college loans. Myself....I married and was extremely poor at the time but somehow managed to pay back every cent. My husband and I could have left the loan to my dad who was a wealthy man and co-signed (my father thought no woman should go to college that's why he refused to pay) but we knew it was an obligation and I guess you could say my sympathies are non-existant for anyone who refused to pay back their college loans.

I support forgiving the loan. If they cannot do that then just repay the amount loaned and not years of interest and penalties. I do not support peanlizing people who cannot pay.
