Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

So far in 2 places only, a local pizza restaurant charges 3% and my nail salon charges 2.5%.

I like pumping my own gas.

The last time an attendant pumped it, he failed to properly replace the gas cap. My engine light came on, took my car to the mechanic and found out the cause costing me $23.

Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

I have been paying my xfinity bill at the office for over a year. This time I got my bill and they charged me 5.99 because a agent had to take my money and give me a receipt.

I wa furious, so I got ahold of the head honcho at the proper dept and it was reversed.  He said, they would do it this time, but that is there policy.

I said, What happen to CUSTOMER SERVICE?

He said my idea of Customer Service and theirs is different.  So, Customer Service as we know it is gone.

I said you charge enough for cable, and now you charge to pay your bill.

Done, cancelling cable.  I don't watch TV much, because everything except PBS is violent.  I will keep the internet and stream.

Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

We have a small business and I was told years ago that we were not allowed to pass along that fee. I see either that was a lie or something changed. Our average fee is about 3.5%. Who do you think pays for all those perks you get in your credit card? Your airline miles, your cash back, etc. I bet some of that comes from the fees that the businesses pay.

Yes.  I'm going back to the old days when I used to pay everything in cash.

Yes, via every transaction. These are not small businesses either. In addition, they won't accept cash or checks either but WILL allow you to type in your bank account number so they can make the withdrawal. Nope, NOT doing that, ever.

In my area most places do not post it so I always ask.  I will pay cash if they are charging a fee.

Re: Paying Credit Card Merchant Fees

With my bank I use the on-line bill pay.  They cut the check and mail it.  No fees for checks or postage. It's a win-win for me.

I second this from @kitty60 .

We do charge for credit cards to pay monthly bills only. ACH is free to the customer, but that is also charged to the business like a credit card as well. It's just not as high a fee so most companies will absorb that cost.

I tell people all the time to do online bill pay. No stamp and no fee. It's truly a win win except you do deal with the occasional lost check in the mail which is easily resent and you do have to remember to do it. No autopay which so many people rely on these days.
