A pastor I worked for years ago would listen to congregants' complaints about how he was allowing this and such, nod and still do what he wanted. He was, after all, the pastor.
He did not believe in openly taking a stand and avoided confrontation at all costs. Instead, he'd let them fuss and fume, leave and it was over. No more thought given to it.
