But I'd never thank someone for posting on MY thread. That's silly.

Really? I often thank people for responding to something on a thread I start.

But, I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

I do that...

yes, I can see thanking people who are sincere with their replies.

Here you can also be having a discussion while the other person is hitting report, report, report, report.

I guess I'm the only one who thanks people for their comments when I don't mean it? lol

Wow, I did not realize so many teachers & professors were passive aggressive. They frequently use sophistic arguments to make the student think and extrapolate.

That's just playing devil's advocate.

yes, they often play devil's advocate to make students think of the other side. An epiphany is more memorable than a lecture.

Agreed.

A good education encourages a student to think!

Mom tells daughter: "Clean your room."

Daughter says: "Okay."

Daughter leaves for the day . . . room not cleaned.

Next day: Room not cleaned

Next day: Room not cleaned

That is just plain old lyin'.

In the example I cite, the room not only never gets cleaned, it gets worse and worse. And the mother is very sick and cannot do it. The daughter promises things all the time and never does them. Often does the opposite. It's not a lie . . . a lie would be "I did it," and it wasn't done. Whatever . . . eye of the beholder, I guess.

That is a chronic liar.

And then we have plain ole argumentative.

I can't help it if some people don't know the difference.

Nah, never let 'em get to you.

Ignoring a person gives them power.

While all the while responding to them.
