It's a skill, honed over many years.

Really? I often thank people for responding to something on a thread I start.
But, I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I do that...
I don't understand the earlier response..WHY can't you dislike everything someone posts one day and be willing to start fresh the next?
If you are not at least trying on a new day then you definitely can hold a grudge..
There are a few posters that come to mind.. I can directly respond and see then posting around me like junior high kids...
At least it's a good for a laugh..

I agree with Snik. It's not snide, sarcastic comments as GoodStuff above says. It's sneakier than that (that's the passive part).

Wow, I did not realize so many teachers & professors were passive aggressive. They frequently use sophistic arguments to make the student think and extrapolate.

Passive-aggressive behavioris the indirect expression of hostility, such as through procrastination, sarcasm, stubbornness, sullenness, or deliberate or repeated failure to accomplish requested tasks for which one is (often explicitly) responsible.
In psychology, passive-aggressive behavior is characterized by a habitual pattern of passive resistance to expected work requirements, opposition, stubbornness, and negativistic attitudes...
Sarcasm is so often used in this negative way. That's the main reason I try to avoid it at all costs, and hate seeing it used against others. The etymology of the word is something like "to cut or tear flesh," and I think that speaks volumes about the effect it has.

That's just playing devil's advocate.

I definitely would, but only sarcastically if it was obvious they were there to stir things up and cause trouble.
I'm not one for letting people upset me, especially here. Minky's right, if you do you are giving that person power over you.
BTW, hi nunya!

I can't help it.
I'm a cat. God made me like that.
