I'm getting depressed!  Every host is selling items across the spectrum for all the parties we're going to.  I'm  going to one party which dh and I are hosting; no one dresses up.   My family gets together for special meals during the holidays, but we don't get dressed up.  Hopefully, everyone will wear clean t shirts!   On Christmas morning my daughter does brunch for everyone and most of us wear our pj's.

Is everyone else booked solid between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day with parties?

Sigh.....

@this is my nic.  Don't feel badly; you're going to more parties than I am.

Re: Parties, parties, parties?

I have a milestone birthday party to attend after Thanksgiving, but other than that nothing really.  We used to go to a lot of parties when DH was working and our neighborhood was young (lots of neighbors would host holiday parties.)

Now however it's a  small group for Thanksgiving and a large Christmas family gathering.  I like to dress nicely but I still want to be comfortable even if others may be much more casual.

Not sure what we're doing for NYE.

Re: Parties, parties, parties?

I have several club parties, church and Sunday School parties, parties at groups where I volunteer and then 3 family get-togethers but I will be dressing, most of the time, as if I am going to church, nothing more except for one and I will not be formal there, just long palazzo pants, a sequin top and velvet jacket, all of which I have had for years.

@this is my nic......bet the hosts will be glad when the holiday shopping is done.  And would bet $$$$ they don't go to very many parties.....just too tired after working so hard.

As for me, the only thing I have planned is going with my neighbor above me to her parent's for Thanksgiving dinner.  That's it.....live a pretty sedate life.

Parties?????  At my age, spending time with my family is everything!!!!  Nothing fancy, just being together and enjoying a meal.

I have never been part of grand social circle where elegant parties are the norm.

Re: Parties, parties, parties?

The host talking about dressing for holiday parties is like  them talking about going to the pumpkin patch or apple picking.........

it it is just sales chatter. Trust me FEW people dress to go anywhere...parties etc..... you are not missing the boat.
