I saw on Grandkidsrgreat's thread about feline lupus that Jeremiah is not well. I hope it is not too serious and send prayers his and your way. He could not be in better Cat Mom hands.

Keeping Jeremiah in my prayers tooSmiley Happy Every single day we have them to touch, watch the tummy move as they breathe, hear their sweet voices, touch the familiar comforting hair is such a gift, isn't it?

One of the things my furkids remind me of over and over is to truly appreciate every single day. When I say my personal prayers I thank my Heavenly Father for allowing me to live long enough to know what to be truly grateful forSmiley Happy

Hope you and ALL of your furbabes have a great day.

Re: Paging 57babe re: Jeremiah

Thank you both so much for your kind words of support for me and our kitty, Jeremiah. And I appreciate your prayers for his recovery.

I am hoping that by Monday he is doing better. Otherwise our vet is considering a stronger antibiotic. I am conflicted about giving him a stronger antibiotic because of the severe side effects.

If you or anyone else has experience with giving their cat a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, please let me know how your cat did on it.

I am open to everyone's advice and suggestions. Got to get this sweet cat well.

Thanks again for your kind words. So nice of you both to tell me that you care. Smiley Happy

What ails Jeremiah? The reason I ask is that my cats tolerated antibiotics to varying degrees, and depending upon the condition, had to ramp up to the fluoroquinolones on rare occasion because infections were stubborn and the cat's health, frail and likely to decline further without this support.

Our vet's fluoro of choice was zeniquin. He is of the "a little goes a long way" school, and so he tended to start with lower doses to gauge tolerance, the hike them up. He also believed in ongoing supplement support and when on the zeniquin, the cat would go on a higher level probiotic such as Proviable-DC to support intestinal health and minimize the usual GI side effects, which could become more pronounced while on the fluoro.

Even Schmoo, who poorly tolerated oral antibiotics, could sustain this level of treatment in the early offing of his diseases.

I hope this helps and pray Jeremiah gets stronger every day.

Jeremiah has had a combination of viral & bacterial respiratory infection that has cleared up in his chest but has not cleared from his sinuses. This illness started in November. Spread to several of our cats but they got better within a couple of weeks.

And he has been on two antibiotics that should have cleared up the infection. The first round of antibiotic seemed to clear up the infection, but two weeks later he relapsed.

Now the vet is considering the fluoroquinolone antibiotic. I was conflicted about giving Jeremiah an antibiotic this strong, but at the same time I don't want him to relapse again.

I believe that our vet mentioned the same name -- zeniquin -- to put Jeremiah on.

OK, good, so if Jeremiah needs to take this antibiotic, I'll talk to the vet about starting out with lowest dose --- and go up from there, if needed.

Will also inquire about the Proviable-DC.

Yes, this DOES help! Thanks so much! Appreciate this information & thanks again for your kind words and your prayer for our kitty.

I may have told you that my husband and I were drawn to Jeremiah because he reminded us so much of your sweet Schmoo.

I pray that you and your husband are blessed and doing well. Take good care. Smiley Happy

I remember that Jeremiah reminded you of Schmoo. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} And I remember your many kindnesses and advice as I cared for him. I pulled Schmoo back off of Proviable-DC (it's VERY potent) at the end of his course due to his other illnesses....and back on "old reliable" -- feline fortiflora -- for maintenance once he was well. Proviable-DC is an uber-probiotic and it, too, is best started a little at a time then increased as tolerated...it can really give them gas if you give it full power right away. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} The zeniquin was used with a stubborn tooth-related infection (upper canine) and later with a dangerous upper respiratory one once Schmoo was in heart failure. Later in his illness we had to go to convenia for UTIs or other URI's because he just couldn't handle the orals anymore; not my first choice, but it worked in him, fortunately, with no consequences.

Our vet is a "less is more" kind of guy and prefers to use a little of a lot of medications and homeopathic approaches to achieve balance in managing acute or chronic illness.

Best wishes for Jeremiah's complete recovery! He's in great hands!

Re: Paging 57babe re: Jeremiah

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on Jeremiah...

He is starting a stronger antibiotic today. Praying that this regimen kills off the infection that he has been suffering with once and for all.

Appreciate everyone's input and prayers for our kitty. Thank you so much. Smiley Happy

Take care, all. Smiley Happy
