I just heard from a doctor today and also read from Mayo Clinic doctors and more, that this drug and others they are testing, in some patients can cause sudden cardiac arrest.
Yikes! That is really scary and they are trying to identify and be very careful about which patients they give it to. So it is definitely not a miracle drug unfortunately.
Now I would be afraid to take it. I had not heard this information before today.
Meds given for the flu can also cause cardio-arrest. The cytokine storm patients can go into cardiac arrest, too. Being put on a ventilator is pretty traumatic, too.
@GrailSeeker @lainelane @on the bay Just One example: An ad on TV for medication to get clear skin (Cindi Lauder in it) has some Horrific side effects, so there is danger in many Rx drugs. Someone here also mentioned that statins, prescribed for cholesterol, are dangerous as well.

The last update I heard is that he is not on a ventilator and that is a good sign.
I think it is important to hope for the best for any person who has been infected with COVID-19.
Really that is all that matters.
All the best to PM Johnson.

@esther22 wrote:These two meds have been available for other conditions for YEARS!!! If a person is in ICU, I would say GO FOR IT!!. They are relatively safe. Many drugs have been found to help or heal other conditions for which they were not originally designed. These are "off label" uses. At that point, there probably not much to lose. As a seasoned nurse of 50+ years, I would take these two drugs for the virus before I would take ANY statin for high cholesterol!!
@esther22 You are my kind of person. I totally agree with your ENTIRE post. Take care!

I hope EVERYONE realizes and remembers this.

These meds are still NOT PROVEN!
The FDA has approved hydroxychloroquin for treatment of the virus.
Approved but NOT proven!
Are you saying you wouldn't try it? Do you think it shouldn't be given? Just curious, @JaneMarple .

Don't waste your breath. It's very funny how science deniers and those who are not in the medical field are now telling us what medications to take. Smart folks listen to the real professionals.
If you have heart disease it has been known for years that Z pack is contra-indicated. I totally agree to listen to the professionals.

of course, one can't really get any of this w/o a doctor or in hospital system in NY.
i read that many docs have switched out z-pak for doxycycline due to heart issues. docs know best.
