@luvmybeetle , I'm sorry, I should not have mentioned that Babbel test! I also found it to be the least accurate, but it was the only name I could remember of the various quizzes I took.
The first quiz I took was really detailed, with tons of pinpointing questions, but I can't find it now. And it was the best!
If anyone finds a really good, accurate one, please let us know.

Originally from NJ/PA area. However at this point I have lived in Cali the longest. I don't really have the NJ twang. My parents and family have strong regional accents.
A few years ago I was traveling with colleagues from Hong Kong through the US for work. At one point we had a connection through the PHL. We popped into a sandwich shop and when the waitress addressed my colleagues and they looked at me funny. So I repeated what she said. Once she took our order and walked away my colleagues told me they couldn't understand her accent. Here were these trilingual , English accented coworkers who literally could not understand two words of Philly accented americanese.

I have a New York/New Jersey accent. My dearest late girlfriend had a strong Brooklyn accent and even when she married and lived at NJ for many years, her Brooklyn accent stood out. Mary, marry and merry are three differently pronounced words for me as are cot and caught.

In Italia there are so many dialects.
You can tell basically where someone is from.
For instance: I’m Friuli and @just bee is Abruzzi. We both speak Italian, however, she says potato and I say pohtahtah. You get what I’m trying to say?
At the end of the day, neither of us has to make any sense because, well, we’re Italian.

When I first started college, my roommates proclaimed I had a Cleveland accent, meaning nasal. My mom always pronounced roof as ruff, drought as drowth. Soft drinks are pop, soda is soda water or seltzer. Shopping carts are not buggies, a buggy is a baby buggy. I drove down to Florida for spring break with two roommates and we stopped in Georgia for gas. They could not understand a word the gas station attendant said to us. I understood him but they could not get past his heavy southern accent and asked me what he said, lol.

I've never taken any accent quizzes or tests.
But I guess I'm Mid-Atlantic; spent most of my time in NJ and PA.
Had an international mom, but don't think I picked up anything.
Have no idea how I sound to others; hope it's not stereotypical New Jerseyan, LOL.
I pronounce Mary, merry, & marry all differently.
The same with caught and cot.
Interesting topic, @Oznell.

Wut? All I know is zat "ain't" sure is a real word.....

Well, @Oznell , I just took two tests. One said I was from the Midwest and one said I was from New England!
I grew up in Georgia and moved to the Chesapeake Bay area when I was 12. When we moved I had a deep southern accent. Over the years I have lost it.
I have lived in the Midwest, but I've never lived in New England. Go figure! ![]()
