I'm not in that area but I am already signed up with a senior pet rescue group here in Delaware.  Since losing my beagle Spencer 3 weeks ago - adopted him 6 years ago when he was 10 - and tho I miss him so very much my house feels so wrong without a dog in it.  So I keep checking the various shelters and maybe not today or tomorrow the right one will come along.

Our Willow is a designer dog.  She is half Chihuahua and half Yorkie..."Chorkie."  However, her Chihuahua mother was surrendered to our local animal shelter.  Willow and her sister were born at the shelter.

Our Cricket was full blooded Chihuahua.  Her original family bought her from a breeder.  That family decided they didn't want her because their 3 cats didn't like her.  So, we rescued her from a home with no love for her.

Our Klondike was a mix breed.  We found her at the St Louis Humane Society when we still lived there.

Need I go on?  Absolutely, adopt, don't shop.

They just brought up 21 dogs from the South yesterday to our small town shelter in N. Wi. near me. Many come from the Tx./Okla. border. Those poor dogs travel 10 to 12 hours nonstop. I have had two dogs from there. One is now four.

Someone in Duluth, Minn. brought in 11 dogs and they don't have enough kennels there at Animal Allies.  Madison, WI. also on tbe news as full. Our shelter has written grants and have fundraisers for nuetering and offer free nuetering  for people with incomes $30,000 or less.
