I go about every 6 weeks -- less in winter but I still go then. I love a pedi.
now -- I am probably jinxing myself for a problem.

Only with the manicurist at my hair salon. Otherwise, I don't trust those mani/pedi "mills" that seem to be all over the place.

My husband had a mild fungus on his foot. The doctor said he probably got it from the health club. He no longer showers there.
He also said that hotels and pools are notorious breeding grounds for fungus. I always take a shower with flip flops on - LOL

I use Dr. Scholl's (for her) overnight foot cream after I take my bath & pumice (just so anyone won't start on how bad baths are, I rinse when I stand up, LOL)- I swear by Dr. Scholl's foot cream..

I've been getting professional mani and pedis for over 20 years and I have never acquired a foot infection. I don't know anyone who ever has. I do not go to posh la-de-da spas, I go to one of two shops in my town. I have seen some shabby, dingy nail shops and I do believe that a shop can be judged by it's appearance and also by price. Shops that are too cheap and/or shabby/dirty probably don't clean their equipment often enough or properly. Although, I'm sure some lovely, expensive "spas" don't practice good hygiene either. Once I walked into a shop near my job and while I was waiting, I saw that between customers, they only cleaned the pedi bowl with hot water and household disinfectant cleaner. They didn't clean the filters and all the moving parts. They just gave it a quick wipe down. I walked out. The places I go to clean the filters, hoses etc between customers. Hence the long waiting time on Saturday and Sunday mornings. There are no guarantees in life but I feel safe. After my "sore toe" experiences, I don't let any newbies touch my feet. I wait for the experienced techs. One shop has a guy nail tech who is quite experienced but he is "heavy handed". I don't let him do my feet either.

Well, yes.
I'm talking about the deck/cement surrounding the pool too - Anywhere where water pools

I have only been doing pedicures for 3+ years, and have not had a problem. I live in a small rural town that is barely a blip on the map. The shop where I go is quite small, and the owner is a friend of mine. She is extremely over the top clean about everything in her shop. She uses portable soaking tubs, and I have watched how she cleans them after each use, so I feel comfortable with getting pedicures there. I would never go to a larger salon, and have no interest in getting pedicures from anyone other than my friend.

I get pedicures 3 or 4 times a year, and maintain myself in between.
I go to two highly rated salons. They've been in business many years, and there's never been complaints against either one. They get new business by word of mouth, and long time residents have patronized both.
I feel confident with these two.
