It is perilous, but it is also a stunningly beautiful drive. I haven't been on it for many years now, but as I recall it, there's very little CA could do to make it "totally safe" whatever that is without doing major damage to the nature of the area. I'm remembering a road overlooking the ocean with nary a guardrail in sight and no place to install one.

That was the 1970's. Has it changed?

I think that one plastic surgeon was texting and got killed 5 or so years ago on PCH. The guy that did all of Heidi Montag's surgeries. Wasn't he on PCH with his dog in some SUV?

Some of the best scenery! I love PCH! I used to take the long way home from Fashion Island (Newport Beach) down through Laguna to just be able to drive along PCH.

I used to drive on it all the time & my hubby was a truck driver so when I went with him to Seattle I would beg for him to take 101. It borders the ocean and is so beautiful to drive. I don't think it's anymore dangerous than other roads, it's the drivers. I haven't been on it in over 10 years now & it didn't have signals then. It sounds like it's been ruined by the population explosion. We used to just pull off along side & walk down to the ocean. Don't know if you can do that now.
