Re: PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)

Interesting thread. I was born in Santa Monica and moved to Ventura as an adult. The drive between the towns was always a favorite, much more fun than the roads where I live now. ETA forgot the section from Big Sur to Carmel. Stunning.

It is when you're the passenger. When I would drive Hwy 1 down to Morro Bay I didn't get a chance to enjoy the scenery.

I drove the PCH from Oregon to LA,it is a scenic, curvy, slow road meant for leisurely driving.

Re: PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)

I wonder what the speed limit is in the Malibu section? This flatlander probably would have trouble getting up to 30 mph.

Re: PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)

I am taking a trip in May where I plan to drive down the PCH much of the way from the Oregon state line (coming from Seattle) to San Francisco. Are there many places along the way to pull over and take pictures, or to switch drivers?

My family made that trip when I was a teen, BeagleMama. I believe we went the whole way though. It was stunningly beautiful.

There are rest stops. There are also some restaurants and hotels along the way. I think if you go to a website that shows California state rest stops they will have them marked. There are many, many towns off the roads to sight see and eat and shop. Maybe AAA will have them all marked so you could pre plan. There are many ara where there are no stops at all and people are not allowed out of the car. But then they areas marked off, where you can pull over and take pictures. Sounds like a wonderful trip.

That is very helpful! We are staying overnight at a few points along the way, but I did not know if there were rest stops and other places where we would be able to stop along the way. Thank you very much.

Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing this part of the country. Smile

Beaglemom

wikipedia actually has a nice walk through of Highway 1, PCH. It is interesting. They do name a couple must sees!
