LOL I remember riding on some 2-lane mountain roads with horrible, steep drop offs, and I always felt myself leaning away from the drop off and toward the driver's side.
Your post really did make me laugh out loud, Lion! Oh, yes, I raise my hand. Gotta lean away from the drop-off to help the car stay where it's supposed to be...

I've never been to CA, but I've been looking at these pictures - wow! I'd love to go there. Lion and dooBdoo, I'll have to do you one better. I do that in airplanes!
Like when they go into a steep bank to one side, and I really believe my weight leaning in the opposite direction is going to make it level out!
I really try not to do it, but my body takes over...

Ever try standing at the edge of a cliff? For those of us who get spooked driving next to one it's unthinkable. I've tried but I can't even get too near to the edge without getting the sensation of falling.
Well, and I watch a lot of real crime shows. Numerous times I've seen shows where one person pushed another off a cliff.
I know people who will stand right on the edge of a cliff. Kind of a 'thrill' thing. Nothing against it and good for them! But not this chicken! *shudder*

chickenbutt, In Yellowstone National Park at the upper falls or lower falls you can walk down to where the waterfall is and you are standing on a concrete slab with railing, of course. As you stand close to the railing, you can see the water going from horizontal to vertical. My husband said, Dell, come on over and look. I said no I am fine. It felt as if I was being swept up by the water and going down to the rapids. Very scary to me.

We drove the entire PCH from LA up to San Fran at night, in a small 4 cylinder car, my DH was pretty nervous about it.

Ah, yeah. It's that sensation that gets ya. I get the sensation of just being in a free-fall. Even if I watch video on the tv of people in a roller coaster - if they keep the camera going with the rise and fall of the roller coaster - I can feel the 'falling' sensation to the extent that it just makes me shiver.
I've never been to Yellowstone, but it always sounds so beautiful. Been to Yosemite a few times and it's just stunning and there are some falls there, too. When I think of Yellowstone I always think Jellystone Park (familiar to those who watched Yogi Bear, back in the stone age. hehe).

Fix it? It's a winding scenic highway. People get in accidents because they aren't paying attention to their driving. Period.

I've been through that area a lot over the years and although beautiful, I'm not that wild about driving it. I don't think I remember any barriers to keep you from going over the edge. True the other side of the highway, it's almost like your passenger door handles are going to scrape the rocks.
I've never been up as far as Big Sur, but there's a road in Palm Desert that leads into the mountains right after the Big Horn golf course. I've attempted it many times and turn around. I just want to abandon my car there and walk back.
Or better yet, crawl back.
