No time for news or TV? But time enough to use the Internet?

No need to be judgmental of others. We don't all live life the same.

While I find this horrific, unjust and sad it was so preventable and it just amazes me that anyone would think going to North Korea and blowing off their beyond strict rules is OK. I am not in any way agreeing with his treatment but this is said as a westerner who knows you do not disrespect another nation no matter how vehemently you disagree with their strict laws and rules. If you do you have just opened yourself up to their brutal treatment and we have no way of stopping this.

This is so horrific. I really feel for his family. I don't know all the particulars of this case or why he was in NK. I will never understand though why any American would go to NK for any reason.

@Gracies Mom wrote:Kachina624.....Otto Warmbier is the young American man arrested in No.Korea because he took a propaganda poster off of a wall--he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. His parents did not hear from him in a year. It recently came out that he was in a coma--No.Korea said that he acquired botulism.and he was given a sleeping pill..but never woke up.That happened in March 2016. He was brought back to the US a few days ago--still in a coma---physicians said he cannot understand speech nor can he speak--large parts of his brain were no longer working--he was in very bad shape. Now that I heard he as passed away, it looks like he was brain dead--such a horror for his parents! Did you see this on the news? Maybe you did, but didn't remember this young man's name. Hope you don't mind my telling you about this sad story.
@Gracies Mom- Thank you for answering the question without snark. I actually didn't know his name either. Not everyone has the time to read the paper and watch the news every single day.
My prayers are with his family and friends. Rest in peace Otto Warmbier.
Thanks @sunala I heard the story on the news but didn't pay much attention to the name. I wondered how he could be in a coma but was walking (with support). It'll be interesting to hear what the autopsy reveals.
The photo you saw with two N Korean soldiers at his side was when he was sentenced into court. The photo being shown of him leaving the transport plane shows him being carried by people to a stretcher.
I am sorry for his family; and most likely he was taken off life support. It is my hope that the family donated his organs, but nothing seen on news about this.
I do hope a travel advisory is put into place for all Americans not to travel to N. Korea. And I hope the remaining 3 Americans get released soon.
So the video I've seen of him walking flanked by two soldiers is when he was sentenced? He is barely walking--looks like his feet are barely touching the floor and he looks like he's in a trance. I guess that's when he was sentenced and was so distraught?
Although I'm all for organ donation and have been listed as a donor for over 20 years, I don't think it would've been a good idea to consider donating his organs. I think it's more important for them to do an autopsy and try to find out what exactly went wrong.
Such a sad story, but yes, could have been prevented for sure.

Young, stupid, arrogant, invulnerable. We all were (well, many of us at that age). It's the parents who ok'd it that escapes me. But, those poor people have to live the rest of their lives with that bad decision. That poor kid. He sure didn't deserve any of this.

I'm not convinced he's the guy in the video removing the poster from the wall in the hotel.

@Bri36 The video is very grainy and you can't really see a face.
