So much gloom and doom from the people who are tired of COVID-19 discussions. I'd like to see happier content from you.

Doubtful. No matter what content gets put out there, the virus folks take over, start citing stats and try to turn threads into an academic discussion, with their own personal ideological slants thrown in for good measure, of course...

Well you can add cheery posts and threads to lighten things up then.

I could but then (one more time) the virus folks would take over (again), start citing stats and try to turn the cheery post into an academic discussion, with their own personal ideological slants thrown in for good measure, of course...

Yes, if I started a thread with pictures of cute kittens, the thread would eventually become a discussion of how cats can get COVID-19.  Smiley Indifferent

@ValuSkr  And then, without fail, a data dump of some sort would ensue, soon to be followed by both blatant and veiled opinions of an at least semi-ideological nature... Assuming the thread didn't flow as desired, there would be at least one expression of hope that it could be deleted...

I know I have been aware of not enough money and trying to feed your family but those issues, too, are being addressed.  However, COVID 19 is seriously being addressed because it is killing people -- lots of them.  I am sure that if you are sick with something else, it will be taken care of too.

So interesting - I remember they started with the masks, goggles, and gloves during the height of AIDS - but they never stopped treating people then.  Hmmmm.

Just great what fear does to people.

Perhaps because people didn't get AIDS from breathing on each other--that virus didn't float through the air like COVID does, or live on surfaces for hours, perhaps even days, at a time.

And there aren't enough masks and other PPE for everyone to use to keep the virus out of the air so people can come in close contact with each other that would be necessary for any medical procedure.

People are hurting, in every way imaginable.  I hope  we'll be able to "contain" the next pandemic before it causes such world-wide havoc and suffering, because there will be another one.

a thought about cats getting covid 19 if your cats go outside ( which mine do not)   they can have another person that they come and visit and go inside their home. I had 2 different cats from 2 different neighbors that used to come inside my house and visit.  this was years ago and we let both neighbors know.  The one neighbor even changed their cats name to what we called him.

Since so many are tossing around the "65,000 dead" (U.S.) count, let's chuck the hysteria and misinformation, and look at the facts: As of yesterday, the correct death total is... 37,308--regardless of what the media and certain misinformed (yet "beloved") governors are spouting.

It really is true. All some people require is to hear lies repeated, and they believe them. Information is good; hysteria is not.

@Moonlady

Here's some of that "good information" from the site you quoted that seems rather relevant.

I agree, information is good but only when it's correct.

"Note: Provisional death counts are based on death certificate data received and coded by the National Center for Health Statistics as of May 1, 2020. Death counts are delayed and may differ from other published sources (see Technical Notes). Counts will be updated periodically. Additional information will be added to this site as available.

The provisional counts forcoronaviruss disease COVIDD-19) deaths are based on a current flow of mortality data in the National Vital Statistics System. National provisional counts include deaths occurring within the 50 states and the District of Columbia that have been received and coded as of the date specified. It is important to note that it can take several weeks for death records to be submitted to National Center for Health Statistics NCHSS), processed, coded, and tabulated. Therefore, the data shown on this page may be incomplete, and will likely not include all deaths that occurred during a given time period, especially for the more recent time periods. Death counts for earlier weeks are continually revised and may increase or decrease as new and updated death certificate data are received from the states byNCHSS.COVIDD-19 death counts shown here may differ from other published sources, as data currently are lagged by an average of 1–22 weeks."

As predicted... let the data dumping begin... And since there's so much discrepancy, believe whatever numbers you want... Be advised, however, that nobody in their right mind is disputing that this is killing too many people. Given that, one wonders what the point is of the endless discussion about the extent of the suffering... Do we really need to wallow in it?

Re: Other Issues as Worrisome as the Virus

Definition of "data dumping."

A large amount of data transferred from one system or location to another.
