Organic Vegetable Garden Questions and Composting

I'm wanting to start a small raised bed garden and need some help from those of you with expertise. I probably am going to start with a couple of tomato plants, a couple of peppers, a couple of cucumbers, eggplant and a squash or two. I need to know how exactly to do the soil, compost, etc. (I have a cedar raised bed already). Also, I'd like some info about making some compost. Is there a small system I can do in the house or garage or would I have to do something outside. What's an easy way to start composting?
