I just had part one of two implants yesterday. It cost me $5700. I also had a bone graft & extraction which amounted to a few thousand.

I have dental insurance which pays very little. I often wonder why dental insurance companies don’t negotiate pricing like medical insurers do?

Doctors get very little for services & two of mine dropped out of Medicare.

Oh, that would be frustrating for sure!  Now you're going to have to wait and go through it all again.  I hope it gets okayed quickly so you can get it done and over with.

But I suppose this is something you have to anticipate from now on with medical situations requiring anesthesia and the like.

resched for tomorrow Oct 31 at 0700. Yep I will def anticipate this process. I have to go through it to get MRIs, other things.
but the pacer is pacing me at 97%  meaning that 97 heartbeats out of 100 are initiated by the device. It is literally keeping me alive. Thank God. I'll do whatever I have to.

i extracted the last molar and left it alone

then a while later - had to extract the molar next to it

the dentist said you should have at least 2 molars to chew

so 1st implant a few years ago

all out of pocket -

fast forward - felt a little pain in my bugs bunny tooth when i bit down on something

hoping it would go back to its original state - i already had a root cana on that tooth

got worse  and didnt get better

i can either get a perm bridge across adjoining teeth on either side

i guess rockettes of teeth or an implant

bridge cost less and less time involved

i went for the implant

he didnt think if  i had enough good bone and may need additioanl surgery - bone graft etc - probably 1 year in total

i opted for the 1 year and more $$$

took out the tooth last wednesday - was awake - that was the worse even though there was no pain -the anticaipation is awful

then there was enough bone - so in went the implant

took 1 pain pill just in case since pain seems to be more pertinent at night

there is a temp tooth with metal cemented on both sides of the tooth

i still cannot bite down - i need to push food  in so i can chew using the back molars

it has been 1 week - less pain this time - perhaps due to no root? or less nerves than the back molar

since i am not going for another surgery - for the bone graft

1,000 less and tooth goes in at 6 months

now looking at dental insurance for the future since i'm sure as i get older.....

i now have the lowest tier - covers 2 cleanings and xrays

i know the insurance wont cover everything... something is still better than 7,000

I know this probably won't be of any use for anyone here, but maybe you can pass this tip down to younger ones.

I can't know for sure this has helped me but I've never had a cavity.  I don't know if it's inheriting my dad's teeth and/or the tip my dentist gave me back in my 20s.  He said not to rinse my mouth for 5 minutes after brushing.  The fluoride has more time to do it's thing.  I decided I didn't have 5 minutes to sit around or remember if I got busy doing something else so I made the executive decision to just not rinse at all.

I can't imagine not rinsing @monicakm .  I have a script from my dentist for a more potent (fluoride wise) toothpaste that I get from the pharmacy.  I'll use this toothpaste for the rest of my life.

I use prescription strength flouride (Prevident) toothpaste that I use nightly.  The instructions say to expectorate when done brushing, but do not rinse.  It's not an unpleasant taste, but I do worry about ingesting too much flouride.

Don't worry about Flouride in toothpaste. In many communities, it has been added to the water! It's safe.

Dental insurance barely covers anything big - I at still working and get insurance through work - first for something like filling or crown they automatically deduct 50% then might pay like 50-75% of what's left of bill.
