Finally got HSN in HD in the NYC area. So no more of those black bars and now a crisp clear digital signal. Took years but my letter writing efforts seemed to pay off. I sent over a dozen messages to the cable company asking why this station was not in HD.

Re: Optimum cable subscribers

@Reever. What channel is HSN on Optimum?

Vast improvement seeing HSN in HD.  I don't watch it often, but at least there's no visual insult if I tune in.

The station not being in HD is not the responsibility of the cable company. HSN pays to have their programming carried by Optimum. It's a contractual arrangement. If HSN doesn't want to pay for better signal, Optimum keeps it in standard definition. When HSN renewed their contract, perhaps they were willing to finally pay for HIgh Definition, or Optimum forced them to change the terms.

All TV is sent by digital signal. But it does not have to be HD.

HSN is on channel 18 in New York City.
